The NYTimes article above is the only published article on the lies in the Obama book about his first job. No journalist looked beyond this, or ever mentioned it again. HTis is my point. |
Yikes. What I don't understand is why the McCain campaign isn't all over this or are they afraid they'll be called racists again? (As was also done to Bill and Hillary Clinton) |
There are so many avenues the McCain campaign could have taken, and a Bush campaign would have taken. The Dems are really lucky McCain is the nominee, I wish they would stop insulting him and calling him McBush, they sound so narrow minded and childish.
A Bush campaign and associated 527s would have jumped on this story, and the trip to Pakistan, and the some say criminal Pakistani roommates he lives with in NY (another reason I suspect for the cover-up), and the Indonesian childhood, and his mother's work with foreign governments and NGO's to raise questions in people's minds. Not saying there's any there there, but that never stopped the Bushies. And honestly, I am not convinced there isn't anything there either, since no journalist has bothered to look deeply. |
Big deal! Who got a bigger boost from affirmative action? Obama, who had to have at least respectable grades to get into college, or McCain, who was often in trouble in high school and had his way paved for him by his high-ranking father and grandfather? (And who continued to screw off at Annapolis and after he graduated. I don't have a problem that it took McCain awhile to grow up but let's not pretend that he got where he did all by himself without affirmative action for sons of powerful white guys.) I'm sure the Obama campaign just doesn't want to make race an issue in the campaign since they seem to be doing everything they can to avoid the topic. But if you want to have a competition on who screwed off more in high school and college and who got the softest affirmative action ride, I'm sure the Obama campaign would love to take on the McCain campaign point for point on who actually did more to earn his way into higher education! |
Well yeah. I fucked off in college too. And I think one of the reasons I got into said college was because my mother went there, so there.
And I took a lot of gut classes, too: Modern Canadian Drama was one of my faves. I also signed up for this Journalist as Novelist class at UMASS and I could not believe how easy it was to get an A. All I needed was to sit on the bus and have a heartbeat. I didn't even read the books. I couldn't give a rat's ass what Obama's grades were in college. The fact that he started at Occidental is more curious to me than anything else. I mean, why go there when the UC system is so much better and cheaper? But these are questions I might ask Obama over a glass of wine. I don't really give a rat's shit. A high LSAT score will do a lot to get you into a good law school, no matter what a screw-off you've been. And if Obama benefited from AA, who gives a dirty tampon? A used condom? Or a bag of my dog's shit? Or my kids' diaper pail? It's the way life works. You get some help, maybe even some free rides. But ultimately the cream keeps rising to the top, and the grad schools/medical schools/business schools/companies/hospitals/government/universities keep skimming from the top. Obama made it to the top at Harvard, wrote two best-selling books, worked at a top-notch firm, taught law at a highly-ranked school, and managed to find his way through the maze of Chicago politics even though he wasn't from Chicago. The fact that the PP even wants to go there just shows how desperate she is. We should all be as dumb as Barack Obama. I'd just love to be that dumb. |
The UC college system is pretty expensive for out-of-staters, though 20 years ago, you could get in-state residency after one year. Maybe he got a scholarship to Occidental. Who knows? Columbia is a more recognized school. I'd have transferred to Columbia if I got accepted. |
Nevertheless, Occidental is a respectable school. |

As a native Californian, I'd have to say: not really. But like I said, I don't give a shit. |
hey can we have some wine together? you're my kinda person ![]() |
are you kidding or are you serious? i make no apologies for my use of colorful language. at least it is original. not copied and pasted. |
I didn't mean respectable like Oberlin -- I'd say more like University of Richmond or Wooster College. I'm not talking high level "respectable." But then you are the native Californian and I absolutely defer to you! ![]() |
Occidental ain't all that great. It's a small private school in a respectable area of LA. |
Native Californian here, agreeing with PP. I think the comparison to Richmond or Wooster College would be apt.
It's an odd choice for Obama. It's in a conservative part of Cal, and there's nothing to do around there, and most of the students are white. But like I said, that's cocktail party conversation. |
Don't worry folks! I'm sure plenty will come out about Obama after he is elected. Don't you remember all of the reporters who came out of the woodwork following Clinton's affair? Oh yeah, they all knew about the affairs when he was running for POTUS but they chose not to print anything because they wanted their guy to win. |
