Asinine crap your boss does

Excellent thread.

mine is so "hands on" that she re-writes most of my emails and work. She has been known to sit at my desk and write a powerpoint with me. She just reworded an email of mine to say exactly what I had just said but in a slightly different way, but marked it all up in red. Sometimes her corrections are actually wrong, and she says ungrammatical things like "her and I". She also cuts me off in meetings and just in general talks over me. (Did I mention I'm totally qualified for my job, get excellent reviews, have a BA and MBA from top schools, but am still micromanaged to this extent?)

I really just want to scream at her--Back the F$%^ OFFFFFF!!!!!

I had a boss who would spend significant time explaining to me in great detail exactly how she wanted something done, although it was a large and bureaucratic organization that had iron-clad procedures for everything. I would do it to her (often strange) specifications, and either never hear back or see my work included in the appropriate reports etc, or hear back weeks later with "why was this done like this and not in the usual format??" This is how you asked me to do it. I have extensive notes on your preferences. "Ummm.... I don't think so..." while giving me that side-eyed "you're crazy" look.

She also cried at the drop of a hat. Seriously, pretty much every staff meeting had her tearing up over something. And at our little goodbye parties for people who were fed up with her complete lack of managerial skill, forget about it. Straight waterworks for a half-hour. She never got through a single farewell speech without sobbing, though she always insisted on making the speech.

She got fired, but gently. She's a genuinely nice person, really fun and friendly. But so disorganized and forgetful and ill-suited for the professional world that it didn't matter.

I had a boss who used to rant about how dangerous and irresponsible I and others at the company were for practicing any outdoor hobbies such as mtn biking, boating, running etc. She said accidents and injuries from these voluntary activities were driving up the cost of her health insurance.

She was also morbidly obese and parked in the handicapped space right in front of our office due to her bad knee.
