We are saving, but won't be able to save enough so we plan to pay the rest out of current income or loans. We intend to cover the cost of tuition for a public education, but will work with our kids to share the difference if they believe a private school will be a better fit for whatever reason. We think that bearing some of the cost of that decision will encourage our kids to make thoughtful choices.
My mom just coughed up the cash to send me to private school, and I think we all would have benefitted if I'd put more thought into that choice. (though I think I would have still gone to the same school.) |
LOL good luck with that, they have been cutting the benefits or eliminating them for most universities. The free ride is over. |
We have real estate and stock investments as well as a 529 plan. |
Plan to hang on to my University job for the next 16 years, and pray the benefit doesn't go the way of the dodo. |
We HOPE to cover our daughter's full cost for undergrad, as long as she works hard to get into college. However, we are hoping she will go public as my undergrad now costs about $200K for a 4 year degree - SOOO not worth it. |
prepaid MD 529 plan. If he wants to go private - he'll have to take loans to cover the difference. |
VA public tuition we will pay. Everything else is up to him, although he can live rent free if at community college and during vacations from school. We'll also cover half of the equivalent of room & board if the resides at college, but only if he is working and maintaining a decent GPA.
Skin in the game is important. |
Have about $120K plus 529 for 12 yo and about $100K plus 529 for 10 yo. We have told them we will pay instate tuition and costs, but what ever they can pay either through scholarship or work will net them the savings.
Doesn't matter to the oldest as he's going pro and won't need college. lol |
