Item #3 - its pretty aparent to anyone who follows HS sports, Bullis is trying to become the next DeMatha in football and basketball in mens sports. F

Bullis will get bashed on anonymous boards for either not being strong academically or being too focused on sports. Bullis will get smart kids, good athletes, and smart kids who are good athletes. Same with any other private school in this area. Bullis has been around for a long time and will continue as long as you have an attractive campus in Potomac with parents willing to pay for smaller class sizes. If it becomes primarily known for its athletics, well every private school asking for 30k needs its niche. If you don't like it don't send your kid there.

Why do schools make such a big deal about sports? It makes no sense to me. I sendmy kids to school so they can learn and excel as professionals. This American obsession with sports is going to make it so much easier for other nation's to compete with the USA in the future. If you don't watch out, you will get what you wish for and the U.S. will once again have all those manufacturing jobs you lament losing. The high paying professional jobs will be India, China and Brazil. And you still will never win the World Cup.

Serious question from someone whose child isn't even in school yet. What's the big deal? I mean, if the parents and students feel that it's in the student's interests to change schools, whether for academic or athletic reasons, why is it slimy?

Maybe because they care about kids. I have a friend who transferred their child 1/2 way through Junior year because he was losing interest in school and headed in the wrong direction with his life. Bullis was the place that reenergized his interest in learning and he is now very successful. (not an athlete) He is at a great college. So what?

Who is going to recruit an athlete from MoCo sports programs - have you ever thought of that. Maybe it's just what a junior needs - some recognition - to get into a stellar college. Maybe their parents are willing to pay the $30k to get a full scholarship to college. Seems like a good investment to me.

Bullis is building there football, basketball and lacrosse program by bringing in senior and junior transfers. Not only are they transfers, they are recruiting kids from other league schools.

Last year, they brought in one of Landon's best lacrosse players as a senior. This year, they brought in Georgetown Prep's best basketball player and had him reclassify and become a junior.

This past fall the had a senior football player transfer in from Blake high school (he was at Bullis for the first semester) and has already left the school and enrolled back into his old public school, Blake.

Sure sounds shady to me.

The problem is that most juniors in MoCo have completed all their requirements to graduate except for English - so basically senior year is spent taking English and the rest of the year is a waste.

The basketball player lost most of 1 year of school because of major back surgery. He also chose to go to a school with his cousin.

Sounds like a high school kid (maybe from a "rival" school) with sour grapes to me.

There must be a lot of athletic cousins at Bullis.

Maybe the Division I football player from Blake came to be with his Bullis cousin, but then the cousin left at the semester.

Probably all those Landon transfers want to be with their cousins too.
