ITA if there is a compromised immune system or if you are old, informed or a baby, you can get sick and die. BUT you do realize that the hysteria is perpetuated but he pharma industry, right?? I am not in any way a conspiracy theorist, but this is blatant.

informed = infirmed |
I would say the hysteria is coming from the fact that hospitals in some cities have essentially had to shut their doors because they are at capacity due to flu patients. It's not just the elderly, infirmed, or infants getting sick and dying. |
I don't know anything about the statistics for this year, but during the great flu pandemic in 1919, younger, healthier people were the ones who died. The theory is that they died because their immune response was so strong. Their strong immune systems filled their lungs with fluid and they essentially drowned (my young great-grandmother was one of them) . |
My DH is a doc--3 years ago when my then 8 year old DS had the flu, I mixed up some of the dry prep Tamiflu™ powder that I keep in the fridge. It knocked it out of the park. He went fom a fever of 104 to 100 and then no more aches, just upper respitory. |
^^I hit it as you have to, within 24 hours of the onset of symptoms. |
The majority of us don't have tamiflu/aren't married to doctors...by the time we are given a prescription it is too late. |
92 out of a pop of 380 million US? .00001%? That said after the H1N1 epidemic several years ago, many, many people had that flu. Just that many, many had also had flu shots so got the flu very mildly. Much different than a bad case of the flu. Especially one that lingers and then turns into something else. |
I will never give my children Tamiflu again. The side effects were terrifying in my youngest. I did some research and was furious with what I found. We were given Tamiflu by an urgent care doc. When I called our pediatrician about the side effects, he said that he never prescribes Tamiflu to kids who are otherwise healthy. And he said he wouldn't give it to anyone in his family.

Another theory is that older people had been exposed to a similar enough flu strain that they had built up some immunity but that previous flu was before the younger folks were born. |
