DS is bottom half at Big 3 with good scores and extracurriculars. Bottom half reflects the strength of the student body. Any chance he'd get in?

You could try asking on College Confidential, where posters live to "chance" your kid at different schools.

I have a B.A. from Columbia and an LL.M. from NYU Law School. Columbia is more uber intellectual and much harder to get into. In my own case, my father went to Columbia and my great-grandmother endowed a Chair at Columbia so I had a bit of help getting in. But really, this is not a difficult decision. Have your daughter apply to all these schools then make a decision among those that accept her.
