I could have written this post (other than the working from home part). I agree completely. OP, if you're still reading, Eamonn's in Old Town is good for lunch, if you like fish and chips, and Majestic Cafe has a fun Sunday family style dinner (check onling to see what they're offerign the month you're here). Restaurant Eve, Majestic Cafe, and Eamonn's are all owned by the same chef, Cathal Armstrong, who is one of the top 4 or 5 chefs in the area - some would argue # 1. I like Vermillion a lot, too. Have fun! |
Op here, yep--still reading! Our weekend away is next weekend so we are still searching for ideas. Thanks!

| Southside and Los Tios (Delray). Eat at both at least once a week. |
I agree about Los Tios. DH is from Texas. I have eaten a lot of tex mex. Los Tios doesn't cut it at all. |
This. Austin Grill can be inconsistent, but it is better than Los Tios on its worst day. A lot of what is labeled as "Tex Mex" around here is being cooked by Salvadorans. Tip: You will never find ground beef or green peas in real Tex Mex. Or yellow cheese, for that matter. |
| Austin Grill is boring too. If you're here just for a weekend, this part of the advice is easy: avoid alleged "Southwestern food." The good stuff is not in Alexandria, VA. |

You mentioned Arlington, too. Tallulah/Eatbar is terrific. Same restaurant group as Evening Star in Del Ray.
I don't know if you're going to find yourself craving diner food after 2 am, but if you do, the best all-night diner in the area, by far, is Bob & Edith's, on Columbia Pike in Arlington (just off Rte.27). |
| Op -- we went to notting hill this weekend on king and its a really cute restaurant with a great bar and a piano player and fires. Have a drink upstairs. Also, the Morrison house is super cute and has a great bar. And if nobody had recommended brabo, i is awesome. Mussels, etc. by Robert wiedemeier. |
| Cheesetique in Del Ray has good sandwiches, soups, mac and cheese, charcurterie and salads, plus wine. I like Lyon Hall in Arlington. |
