Agreed. And these conversations will happen between kids no matter where they are getting their info.

Stumbled upon this horrifying story of what happens when kids don't have sex ed.

14 years old.

I have no idea what you are referring to, and I teach FLE to 5th graders. The information provided is very basic and not at all controversial: proper names of body parts and cells, basic info on how sperm and egg join to create a baby, and the names of some diseases you can get from having sex. Lots of emphasis on waiting until you are mature before you even think about it. We DO NOT, and are not allowed, to discuss intercourse -- they always leave a little puzzled as to how the sperm and egg ever gete together! -- homosexuality, condoms or birth control, or anything other than scientific fact.
We also do not make any assumptions about what knowledge or experience kids have.

Many questions I am only allowed to answer by saying, "Ask your family." So your comments are flat wrong!

Troll post and incorrect. Maybe in your class...

16:28, are you perhaps thinking of a different school district? Somewhere in California perhaps?

In 5th grade fcps sex ed, there is a specific list of topics that the teachers are not allowed to discuss. Homosexuality, abortion,oral/anal sex, mastrubation, and a few other topics that are banned from discussion.

I don't remember when I first learned about sex. I grew up on a farm and knew from a very early age how animals got pregant (even watching cows be artificially inseminated) and it's not hard to make the leap from animals to humans. I'm sure it was well before I was 10 years old. My kids haven't seen the farm animals doing it but I'm as up front with them as my parents were with us and none of them are even 10 yet. I don't understand what the big deal is.

+100. I heard about orgies before I was in middle school. Catholic middle school. You're kids are gonna hear it from his/her peers. You cannot control that. Best open the discussion. You're not doing yourself or your kids any favors.
