Toddlers 'lost' by staff: How common is this? Happened at Guiding Star Child Development, now FCC?

Anonymous
everyone's heard these stories about people losing children, but it's always been about children who are older. i have NEVER heard of anyone losing a two year old. when my daughter was that age i would never ever let her out of eyesight. honestly i don't think i let her go more than 3 yards away from me that whole year unless she was with her nanny.

Just like most parents have accidentally left their kid somewhere at some point
, I am sure that this happens a couple times a year in most cities.

Whoa, I highly doubt that "most parents" have accidentally left their kid somewhere. I've never done that and I can fairly guarantee that I never will.

Don't most of you have stories about the time your parents forgot you somewhere? Mixed up about who you were with type scenario?

AUMC CDC also had a child left on a playground/parking lot a few years back. On-site playground.

ChildTime in Bethesda lost a child who was brought back to the center by a pedestrian. The child walked all the way to east-west highway. The teachers were on their old playground located on second level.

Who's randomly posting all these compliance things? Wacko.

I find it helpful as its stating facts unlike your "wacko" comment. Must be your center mentioned.

Feel free to start a new thread with that info. I don't see"lost child" on these lists - that's the point of the thread.

Right... each thread ALWAYS stays on topic- strange more concerned with this than what's been posted.

Most of these infractions are really minor. In DC they will shut down a center for having one child out of 50 missing their second dose of a Hep B vaccine!!

I've worked in centers in DC and VA. All DC cares about is that every child has every dose of every vaccine, at the right age and spaced apart the right amount of time. I kid you not that one center I worked in did not have their license renewed because one child had their second dose of Hep A THREE DAYS before the the DC DOH says they should have it. We had to tell that family to get an UNNECESSARY third dose of the vaccine or they couldn't bring their child back to the center. A note from the doctor didn't work.

Those emergency contact form infractions? In DC if there are not three names on the contact form, center is out of compliance.

So take the compliance infractions with a grain of salt unless they're really serious.

Never. Assuming you do, what kind of parent are you?

Sounds like some centers who get lots of kudos on this forum have staffing and other licensing concerns. And what's with Bethesda Country day???

Where there are humans, there will be errors. Not an excuse, but reality. Hopefully, when incidents like this happen, everyone in the child care community learns from it, and we reduce the chances of it happening again in the near and distant future.

It is no different than the mom who drops her kid while carrying a laundry basket in one arm and kid in the other arm (yes, I did hear of someone who did this). Or the nanny who accidentally closes the door on the kid's fast fingers.

Many places have proper training, responsible leaders, loving teachers, but mistakes will happen. We can all expect that we learn from mistakes and always strive to do better as people, whether at home, school, or anywhere else.

It IS different. Because although I have indeed closed a door on DC's fingers, I have never, and would never, forget her and leave her somewhere. Also, the former results in a bad injury, but no possibility of abduction, abuse, or death, like the latter.

PP, it must be difficult for you to live in the world of black and white and absolutes. One day, you will find yourself in a grey area and let's see how you do.
