Blue Bird Alexandria

Keeping this afloat. We're on lists at both Tiny Tots and Blue Bird 1, and it's really the only affordable option we've come across. I didn't love it, but I'd rather not be housepoor/daycarepoor for two-four years like at some of the others in town. (Seriously, HOW do people afford $2000/mo for daycare and still be able to put food on the table?!)

There are places that daycare for one is 2000 a month.

My kids were there from 8 mons until they left for kindergarten. I was very pleased at every level though I did wish the menu was less processed. I also have twins and it was very affordable for 2 kids - when I left it was $2060/mo total.

We were at Tiny Tots for a year and Bluebird for 3 years with two kids at the schools. It started out really well with the exception of a few things we did not like such as poor communication and language barriers with some of the "teachers" but other than that we recommended it to friends and liked it. Until ... we found out my sons teacher was "disciplining" him along with other kids by hitting on the head with books, twisting their ears (my son has broken cartilage on his right ear) and other inappropriate actions. Really long story, really short, the teacher was fired but in a very awkward way. She was still at the graduation of her class, after an awkward meeting with her and many upset parents, she was NOT escorted to her classroom to get her items and leave. She walked in by herself with the kids in the class and got her belongings. School was very quick to cover up the issue and did not properly notify parents or CPS as they should of, so someone alerted CPS. Of course they thought it was me and things began to change. My son was all of a sudden called a "bully" and was made to change classrooms, although the Director could not tell me what "bullying" behavior he was exhibiting and I requested her to find out. When she finally responded to my request of those "bullying" behaviors, it was a list of things such as "He pushes his way to the front of the line, poor sportsmanship when playing a game as he does not like to lose, blah, blah blah". All things normal of a 5 year old. Nothing extreme or close to "bullying". It was extremely awkward and uncomfortable until we left the school two months later. Learned a lot about their management style. They are strictly business people and in the business for the money and not the kids and if something should happen to mess with their business, they want you gone, even if it's error on their part. Good riddens!

As a mom who scours the internet, I can tell you that there is more of an incentive to write a scathing review of something when it has angered you, so good reviews can be hard to find. I am making the time to do just that.

I'll preface that I come from a latin family. The idea of childcare is foreign to me, because back home, there is always an aunt, a grandma or someone who watches your kids until they are ready to go to school. Because of this, it was extremely hard, and painful, to select a daycare for my first child. My mother watched her for a year, until there was no choice but to enroll her. We were appalled at some of the centers we visited, until we found BlueBird.

Notes:
-The ladies clean the rooms every day as they close up the school. I have seen them all vacuuming, mopping, disinfecting regularly.
-Open door policy. I can drop in whenever I please, and check in and see what the little ones are doing.
-They are affectionate with the kids. I ENCOURAGE this. I want them to love my babies as if they were extended family, because I want my kids to feel comforted, as ease and safe with their caregiver. I want them in turn to be patient, caring and loving with my kids. It is a hard job (they exhaust me and I'm their mother!) so imagine a room full of them!
-They are bilingual. No, some of the ladies don't have great pronunciation, but a lot of them do. I encourage the teachers and assistants to speak to my daughter in spanish because her english has skyrocketed and her spanish needs reinforcement. Having a bilingual child at age 3 is not a bad thing in my book.
-They provide diapers, wipes and start potty training, provide snacks and food (except formula for babies.)
-Their rates are more affordable than other daycares, and a flat rate for multiple kids
-They have extensive activities. It is apparent, just look on the walls and see all the pictures they take of the kids. There is always something going on. They throw holiday parties for the kids, my daughter frequently comes home with presents from her teachers...

There was no question when we had our second child where he would go. Again, it was painful to leave a baby with another, but I was much more reassured that the same ladies that took care of my daughter welcomed my son.

here in one negative thing: my fob didn't work, and it took a while ( like a month) to get a new one... That is really the only negative thing I have.

I hope you moms out there are at least a little assured, and I know this is a really hard decision. Best of luck,

We are not happy with our current childcare situation and are looking to switch to Blue Bird for our 19mo DD. Anyone care to comment on recent experiences? We are looking at the large facility on Commerce.

My children have attended BB2 since they were 6 months old and they have flourished. Their current teacher is the sweetest and my kids have really formed attachments to some of the teacher aids as well. One of my kids got upset with me last week for arriving early to pick him up because he wanted to stay with his teacher for a little longer. They have learned a lot, have formed really great friendships, and regularly go outside for walks. If there is inclement weather, they get time in the indoor gym to run around and get their "wiggles" out. We will be moving soon and I am so sad to be leaving this school, and sad knowing how much my kids will miss their teachers and friends.
Over the years, I do wish that communication to the parents was a bit better, but they have always been well cared for.

Bluebird Day care center owners hire staffs without checking background & no medical check up either . There are criminals working there , the owner pay them less money to keep child abusers thus they can save money . To save diaper cost one of the employee named Erica a child abuser Psycho told me that she was told to put …… & torture the poor infants & toddlers to suffer. This is 100% fact or ask that psycho Erica she’ll explain it , Or she accidentally said that & later got fired from the bluebird 2 coz of breaking that promise which the owners kept as secret . Honestly please don’t bring your kids there , those staffs physically & mentally abuse your innocent kids . They always lie for everything . Chantel , Erica , Martha , Marja , Lesly , Tuba , Flor , Amanda , Karla , Marjorie were the nightmares on those years . I wonder why nobody sueing this establishment. Those ladies in infant & toddler’s room kisses the kids mouth & they don’t have a medical record for STD . Check it ? The owners intentionally hired criminals & street workers to spread diseases to kids . Beware of this Blue bird daycare center . I think there are illegal alliens work there as well , in those days to cover the crime the owners never kept cameras & no securities either . A criminal minded Martha kept in front to watch someone coming so those employees can abuse the poor kids . The owners doesn’t know that Martha stealing money from them as well . I asked for a small bed for my kid & Martha asked for cash only & she put in her bag. I was suspicious so I asked for receipt & she said in her stupid Latino accent No No na Na . I know she was stealing but I don’t care whether she steal or not but she was one of the suspect who abused my child . Shameless Management , those owners , to make money they’ll do any crimes . God Is watching them , they’ll get it everything with interest when they go . How many kids they tortured & abused & end up in mental hospital or probably killed , Those owners should be arrested , please anyone read this please contact or communicate back . Thanks
