Anyone here own an orbit? I am obsessed with it but want to hear what users think. I don't have the space to own to many strollers and this one appears to be a convenient all in one. |
My pediatrician does not recommend using a car seat instead of a bassinet for the first few months....
So based on that, what do people recommend? How's the Bee? |
Do you mean he/she doesn't recommend using the car seat in a frame as a stroller? Do you know why not? I've never heard that advice before ... I'm curious. |
My pediatrician said the baby should really be lying flat, for the development of the back/spine and because the baby doesn't have the neck muscles. Car seats for babies are meant for short rides, not to replace bassinet type strollers.

Interestering. I never heard this either. My son had refulx and the various pediatricians at my practice all recommended keeping him upright in a carseat (or bouncy seat) as much as possible and even suggested that he sleep in one rather than flat in his crib. Regardless, I would imagine that the average baby wouldn't spend more than an hour a day in the stroller and that an hour in a carseat as opposed to a bassinet wouldn't do any harm. |
Well reflux is a different story, then the recommendation is to keep them in a seat. But for babies without reflux, the bassinet was the recommendation.
I think if you're a suburbanite and drive everywhere the car seat might be sufficient, but if you live in the city and walk, the needs are different.... I'm from Europe and it is really rare to see little babies being pushed in car seats. |
We're huge fans of the Orbit. Love the fact that it can rotate 360 degrees. Very handy when putting baby in the car. Very solid construction. Easy to use. Compact stroller base. Includes a removable pouch that hangs under the stroller. I bought a nice diaper bag but don't use it b/c I use the pouch instead. Great all-in-one! |
I agree with the posters who suggest this combination: snap n go, outdoor/jogger, and then light umbrella-like for later. That's my plan. My Mom offered to pay for a nice stroller but it didn't make sense to get just one because none really are versitile enough for all circumstances. I have an 8 week old and wanted to start walking around the neighborhood for exercise after he was a month old, but all I had was a snap n go, which was great for car trips to the doctor and mall but not good on uneven sidewalks. So I just got the BOB Revolution with the infant seat attachment and it's been working great for walking outside. We live in an old n'hood in Arlington and the sidewalks are so bad that you really need an all terrain stroller, sad to say. Also, I took it across our front lawn today...it goes up and over things outside wonderfully! But, the BOB is too big to fold up and carry around in the car so we leave the snap n go in the car and leave the BOB at the back door. When the baby's big enough to ditch the snap n go I'll get an umbrella stroller or a super light one...I hear Maclarens and Peg Peregos are good (Aria OH was one I liked in the store). |
There is a reason you see so many McClarens. They are practical, durable, and light. We live in the city and don't need anything else and are on foot 95% of the time. Easy to maneuver in stores, Metro, etc, and doesn't take up a lot of space. Something like the Quest has a decent recline and leg extensions. |
Phil and Teds! + a light waight umbrella (quinny zap, mclaren) for children 6 months +.
In my country of orgin it is highly recomended bythe pediatricians for the infant to lie flat or almost flat untill he/she is able to sit on their own, esspecially during the long strolls. My hart is aching when I see newborns in the in all wierd possitions in the umbrella strollers... I chose Phil and Teds and just love it. It rides smoothly, folds easiely, truns great, you can do a light jogg. It's esspecialy worth the money if you are planning for another baby in the near future, we have 2 now ( 3 year old ans 1 year old) and this stroller is absolutelly a life saver. You can have an infant (in a recline possition) and a todler siting comfortably in the stroller at the same time without worring about it fitting trough doors. we also have a mclaren with the board attached on the back, where te older kid stands and rides for quick errons. Good luck! I know how frustraiting the proccess of picking the right stroller can be. And to make the things worst typicly right after you make a purchase you will see someone with either a newer and improved version of what you just bought or a completely different stroller that you will wish you have bought instead ![]() |
