If I hijacked it, you rode with me for a while until you could not win your point and then you told me to get off your thread. I'll let you reclaim your oh so riveting and really serious thread. And pretend you're not being a bully.

enough. see ya.

Dude. Just leave already.

And, I'm sorry, it may seem irrelevant to you, but many people see it as hypocritical when people get more riled up about animal rights than the taking of innocent human life. Still, you might want to remind others that posts have to meet your definition of relevance.

Actually, I believe that the lives of sentient animals should have many more rights than an 8-week fetus. Or even a 12-week fetus. My dog is smarter, more useful to society, more nurturing, more loyal, more vulnerable, and more emotive than any clump of 8-weeks cells should ever be.

Still, you might want to remind others that posts have to meet your definition of relevance.

On behalf of Jeff (who has given me absolutely no authority to speak on his behalf), go fuck yourself.

I don't want this person to leave. I think he/she made some interesting and relevant comments. The point of this forum is to explore contrasting points of view, imho. And no offense Jeff, but some of your comments do have a bite to them.

So does wasabi... And I love it.

Jeff + I = BFF.

I will not stand to hear him disparaged.

Come on guys. Let's try to stick to discussion of the ad. Abortion discussions can take place in another thread. Also, while I appreciate support, I can take care of myself pretty well and its probably better not to engage in name calling.

In my experience, and as a generalization, most people who own pets -- particularly dogs -- are nicer than people who don't. Not just to their pets, but to human beings.

Conversely, and also as a generalization, most people who enjoy hunting are not particularly nice people.

So, to the extent that the ad shows Palin as someone who enjoys gratuitiously killing animals in a very painful way, I see that as consistent with my overall impression that she is not a very nice person.

Just last week an acquaintance's dog nipped my toddler's face while he was playing on the floor. She blamed my toddler because he was making noise, and claimed that dogs don't like noise. Does she sound like a nice person to you? What a ridiculous stereotype.

I have to agree with you. I'm not condoning a dog biting a toddler's face but it does seem that the people who are compassionate towards animals are generally more compassionate people. Hunting for food is one thing, but sport hunting is criminal. So maybe this ad is a form of overpopulation control but that fact of the matter is Palin hunts for the sport. It's one of her hobbies.

I am just following this thread- and Jeff did cross the line in my opinion (though I don't have the power and authority like Jeff has to just cut or add people as he feels like it).. Most contributors to a thread have equal say- and by the way that Jeff represents himself- it does not. I;m completely sure Jeff will argue he's fair and neutral and just a participant etc. but it's really not coming out that way. Basically- this is Jeff's site (not that he dabbles with each posting or issue- but when he wants to- he has his say- and that is kind).

If I were the "King" why would I bother arguing with this person rather than simply deleting her messages? She -- and you for that matter -- are welcome to start threads on any topic you want. What is wrong with wanting to keep a thread on topic?

Anonymous wrote:20:09. Sorry; I should have read the entire thread before I posted. I see Jeff mentioned the population control issue. I suspect the purpose is population control because Palin supported a bounty on wolves. That seems to suggest that population control is the goal. I still dislike hunting, but I also see the difficulty of roaming Alaska shooting contraceptives into animal populations that are out of control.

If I am recalling correctly, coyotes are captured and relocated to control population in Rock Creek and Fallsgrove. I wonder why they cannot do this in Alaska. They certainly have the land.

You admit it's a generalization, but it still sounds like a widely untrue stereotype to me. It's also not at all fitting with the hunters I know. I'll add too, that most hunters I know DO eat the meat (and don't do these crazy helicopter shoots). Typical "woods" hunting that involves challenge is by far the most typical type of hunting. This helicopter sport is so far outside the norm that it's not at all fair to compare those who do that to regular hunters. (FWIW, i don't hunt and neither does DH.)

Can't help putting in my own generalization (meant as a humorous gibe rather than a snark) that people who make generalizations are lazy thinkers.

Obviously the state of Alaska isn't animal friendly . According to Palin, the polar bear should not be listed as endangered.
