What movies from your youth have you introduced your kids to?

The remake with Lindsay Lohan I actually really good. It's such a shame that she ended up such a train wreck.

Agreed. I am a big fan of the original Parent Trap (and I think kids would still enjoy it), but I also enjoy the Lindsay Lohan remake. It is too bad she is such a train wreck - she was adorable and talented once upon a time.

The movies I can't wait to introduce to my little one are the Back to the Future trilogy. The first one came out when I was 8 and I saw it in a packed movie theater.

Oh, and I want to show her Ghostbusters, but she's a fraidy cat.

Isn't the last movie, when Marty and Jen are grown-up with crazy kids, set in 2012?!

Ol' Yeller- If your kid is old enough to handle the death of a pet and it's not from "my youth", but still a classic.

The lists are fine, but what did your kids think? That's the interesting information here, and most of you are omitting it.

My daughter is only five, and I've tried to watch Annie and the Sound of Music with her. She was into it for the first hour (especially the scenes with the children, not so much the ones with just grownups), but then wandered off to play, or made an excuse why we couldn't keep watching now. Don't know if it's the age/ attention span thing, or if she's been ruined by too many hours of 11-minute episodes of Phineas & Ferb.

2015. We still have time for flying cars and cars powered by trash!

Sound of Music
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

The original Willy Wonka has been my kid's favorite movie since age two (skip the scary boat scene for little ones).

Jaws and Hoosiers went over well with my boys (ages 9 and 12).

Charlotte's Web, loved that movie!
Homeward Bound - although I think I was older when it came out.
TPB
Annie
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
The Wizard of Oz
Goonies - he's 4 and in to pirates in a major way but I might wait until he's older due to the gunplay in the movie.
Rudy - I loved that movie!
To Kill a Mockingbird

I would throw in Sixteen Candles but since I have a boy, it is likely a lost cause. Maybe when he's older, Clerks? That movie is hysterical!

That seems appropriate behavior/attention span for a five year old. Nuns, Nazis and singing children in lederhosen are not as compelling as Phineas and Ferb.

Back to the Future

We LOVE the Parent Trap remake but that's from their youth, not mine.

They started to work their way through the AFI top 100 movies at one point. There were a few that they hated (e.g., Annie Hall).

Goonies, Lucas, Back to the Future and the old Disney movies like Herbie the Love Bug (not that awful Lohan remake!) Maybe if your 13 year old is ready, Breakfast Club (although that seem positively tame compared to half the crap tween seems to be inundated with now) and Grease. I practically killed my record player with that album over and over and over...

Ok, I would not let my 8 year watch this! The thing about pretty much all the PG movies from the 80's and 90's is that they are what we would call an intense PG-13 now. And the PG-13s from back then are like R-rated movies now--so off the table for any but the most mature thinking teen. I wouldn't want to sit through that scene of Sigourney Weaver writhing around orgasmically with my 8 yo DD, thanks, AWKWARD.
