Ha! I loved it, too. |
Now that we are on the subject.. does anyone know where Monica Lewinsky is these days? Last I heard she was in London designing handbags, but that was a good five years ago, if not more. She's got to be pushing forties now. |
And that is precisely what makes him a great speaker. He makes it all seem like just a little ol' story he is telling, then he underlines the punch lines. He is the best natural speaker I have ever seen. David Brooks was on Lehrer spouting about how Clinton isn't an eloquent speaker, but seriously - the days of the silver-tongued orator went out around the time of the Scopes trial, I think. Bill distills things and keeps you engaged like no one before or since. I met him once when he was running before 1992. Major swoon to talk to him one-on-one (really one-on-two; a friend was with me as we approached him to ask something after a speech in an early state). You could see how smart he was and how he was calculating every second about what your angle was and what he thught you really wanted to know. Fascinating. |
I fell asleep before Bill. I tried to stay awake.....oh well. I am sure there will be multiple recaps. Glad to hear that he was amazing!
What does everyone mean by "arithmetic?" Thanks ![]() |
Here's the 90 second version of President Clinton and "arithmetic": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AX3a-2yrQwY ?"People ask me all the time how we delivered four surplus budgets in a row. What new ideas did we bring? I always give a one-word answer: arithmetic." |
"Arithmetic!!! "
out of many great lines, this was the best!! And I thought he knocked it out of the park too. Plus he clearly was enjoying himself. He seemed happy. Obama can be a good speaker but you can also tell he hates politics and doesn't really seem to like people all that much. That's ok ; I'm an introvert too. But it is a gift Clinton has to do great while projecting an image of having a great time doing so. |
No kidding. We were watching the feed as they left the stage and Clinton was hugging all these folks. Obama was shaking hands too, but they basically had to pull Clinton out of the crowd. I love Obama but Clinton is like The Beatles. |
Bill Clinton always "hits it." This thread makes me understand a few Dems' thought process better. I would be obsessed with gender politics also if I held these sexist views. Gross. |
What? I think you are confused about which party is obsessed with gender politics... Let's not forget Newt "I cheated on my ill wife because I loved my country" or Henry "youthful indescretion at 40" Hydr or even Herman "13 year affair" Cain. Bill is hardly the only politician who has cheated on his wife. Hell, even daddy bush had a side piece. |
Obama 4.2 million jobs. The Republican Congress "Zero". Romney, let the car industry go bankrupt. Obama 1million plus jobs saved, 250,000 more jobs created as result of saving car industry. Romney and his bankruptcy "Zero". |
He's an amazing speaker, AND he's a brilliant policymaker. He loves wading into the details to come up with an analysis that works. "Arithmetic!" |
I liked the arithmetic line, but my fave line was about Romney wanting to "double down on the trickle down." Awesome. |
What an orator!! I never fully appreciated his speaking skills, but man, what a communicator. Distilled a lot of information into simple words for all to understand, even ignorant num-nuts. |
