+1 Another reason not to go to Landon.

When evaluating any institution, school or business, there is much more to consider.

+1,000. That is outrageous.

Not much different than headmasters at other top and not-so-top private schools in the area based on the Form 990s for other schools and my experience from being involved on a search committee for a headmaster for an area private several years ago (search firm had a lot of good benchmarking data), especially those schools that include high schools. Headmasters have become a lot like CEOs of small companies with fairly large staffs to manage, grounds to oversee, large budgets, parents to cater to, alumni to keep engaged and raise money from, colleges to maintain relationships with for outplacement, etc. Many of the schools in this region conduct national searches for headmasters, and the competition for top talent can be tough and expensive.

The allegation was made in a court case that was thrown out, was it not? Which suggests that one should take the $800,000 number with a very large grain of salt.

That's a fair point. Lots of stuff that gets alleged in lawsuits is highly exaggerated or outright false.

The case against Landon went to trial and Landon not only won, but also won a countersuit against the former administrator and the law firm that ginned up the false accusations.

The latest tax return for Landon reported in Guidestar indicates the headmasters salary was $326,000 plus an extra $91,000 of extra compensation. Where is the source that indicates the Headmaster salary was $800K+.

If you are interested in looking up how much your current headmaster makes at your son or daughters school, feel free to create an account at Guidestar.org (its free) and has the tax returns of several non profits across the country.

Landon looks pretty good.

I also wonder what the salaries for the heads of St Albans and NCS look like.

+1 - And be sure to scroll also to the sections listing the additional compensation for many of these headmasters - many get housing, club memberships, and cost of living allowances.

Surely there is somebody in Bangalore who could do the job just as well for less?
