| Boy Scout troop in AU Park is run by cliquey, snotty Republican-stealth-Mormons. My son was practically fragged by some other boys on a camping trip. It's really a very mean group of Dads without real jobs--but that went to big name schools--they are grown men strutting around pathetically in boy scout uniforms. They are disorganized poseurs who ruined boy scouts for all 3 of my sons. |
| Again people are stupid the policy is no scoutmaster gays .gay scouts are welcomed and there are no teachings against the gays. Its a private organization, can you force a religious institution to hire gay patios pastors or inmams? |
The irony is simply overwhelming. |
Well, if there was such an organization, I'd be happy to discuss it. But let's keep the focus on the Boy Scouts, and not go down these imaginary paths when we have a real organizatio to discuss. The Boy Scouts apparently believe that gay people are not "morally straight," not "clean in word and deed," and that "homosexuals do not provide a desirable role model for Scouts." That's a bigoted philosophy. And before you start, the definition of a bigot is someone who "is intolerant of any ideas other than his or her own, especially on religion, politics, or race." Excluding people based on sexual preference, and claiming that they are immoral, fits perfectly within that definition. |
No, it's not the same. The leadership of the BSA at the national level is committed to excluding gays and atheists. That is not going to change. If you want to let your son join anyway, you can make that choice, but if you think your money and your tacit support is not going to an organization that discriminates, you are wrong. You are not going to bring about a change in the policy, because the people at the top love the policy and think it is right. Not just OK, but better than accepting gays or atheists. |

From scoutingforall.org:
# Our Scout unit doesn't agree with the BSA policy. What can we do? - Adopt your own statement on inclusiveness, and get the understanding and support of your Scout's parents and your chartered organization. Let the Scouts know you will not discriminate. Whether you tell your local council is up to you. They might give you a bad time, but Scout units have had such policies in effect since 1991 without losing their charters. Give a copy of your antidiscrimination statement to the city council and school board, informing them that as a Pack or Troop you would not discriminate against anyone. Ask that you not be held liable for the National Boy Scouts of America's practice of discrimination. # Our organization doesn't believe in discriminating against gays. Can we still have a Scout unit? - Certainly, and you should! The more organizations that operate inclusive Scout units with good Scout programs, the sooner change in the BSA will occur. At this point in time it remains a don't ask don't tell policy to protect gay youth and adults in scouting. This gives our gay youth and straight a terrible message, but it remains the best we can do under the current National Boy Scouts of America's practices of discrimination. # Should we as the charted organization drop our Scout unit? - Certainly not! Apply your organization's standards to the operation of your Scout units. Scouting is still a great movement and a great program. The more Scout units that will not discriminate, the stronger and better the program will become. |
No, the policy is so gay people in positions of leadership. That includes: scoutmasters, pack masters, den leaders, Popcorn Colonel, pack committee members such as Popcorn Colonel, treasurer, etc. |
No, I don't see the problem. Perhaps you can elaborate? |
As is the speech we bring to bear in the marketplace of ideas to bring shame and ridicule upon the organization for having these policies, however legal they may be. |
| Again the idea for same sex organizations its to remove sexual and focus on comradary . there is no policy against gays joining except for adult males in positions of power over minors. |
Uh-huh. So the gay cub scout can become the gay boy scout can become the gay eagle scout, but can't become the gay scout leader because all gays are pedophiles. Got it. |

I love the way that politically-correct, smart-minded people criticize the Boy Scouts of America for doing what they criticize the Catholic Church hierarchy for not doing.
--Eagle Scout (and a Catholic) |
Nope. They just removed a lesbian mother from leadership of her 7 year-old son's Tiger Pack: http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Latest-News-Wires/2012/0501/Boy-Scout-resignation-over-lesbian-mother-s-removal-in-Ohio |
Well, the gay is catching, you know. Can't have that. |
