As a Democrat myself, and a nonreligious person, I am continually surprised by the anti-religious sentiments espoused by my fellow Dems, including bigotry against Mormons. I don't think you can categorically say all Democrats are above this, because they're certainly not. The GOP doesn't have a monopoly on closed-mindedness.

The question I would have for the religious people is how having a Mormon as president would help convertions to Mormonism? It is already the fastest growing, add the president to it and some of the old time religions are going to have a hard time.

I think there will be a Super PAC that does an exposé of the Mormon religion, its subjugation of women, its racism, its special underwear and magical glasses and that would be devastating.

I believe he will probably win, but not if the economy goes into a tailspin again b/c of Europe. In that case, he is toast.

I will also vote for him again. Not necessarily b/c I think Romney is particularly horrible (of all the Republican candidates, he seems the most moderate to me, and I like that), but I'm worried he will be indebted to the crazy Evangelical conservative right and will be in the position to do a whole lot of harm if Repubs control Congress as well.

Even if I believed your last line, the notion that Willard Romney, a throwback to the fantasy world of the 1950s that never existed except on "Leave It To Beaver", would be a "new day" is absolutely laughable.

That said, the Big Lie has worked before and Romney is a ruthless and utterly unprincipled expert at using it, and I have no doubt that he/they have only just begun to spread the odious stain of falsehood and innuendo to secure victory at any cost.

Romney is as unprepared as Obama was - the notion that business experience equals ability to govern is absurd. But he can win with the Big Lie, Americans have proven themselves to be pretty gullible and stupid, electorally speaking.

Not all of the democrats are centrist. In fact, the Democratic part is moving further left. The Blue Dog Democrats were the centrist ones and they were decimated by the last mid-term elections. While Obama leans towards the moderate left, he is still left of center, but also significantly more moderate than many in the party such as Pelosi, Reid, and company.
