For all the Ivy League Ladies (and their parents)

Ivy League grads--

So, what should I talk about to you at a party so that you won't think I'm not smart enough for you and get bored with me? My federal job in the government, which I like, but you would probably find dull? (I'm not an attorney, but in an administrative job supporting attorneys.not paralegal) The dogs my daughter and I are considering getting for her? My favorite sitcoms or restaurants? The Chick-Lit book I am reading? My scheduled vacations for the summer? The show that we will see at Glen Echo this weekend? My love of exercise and the outdoors.

Or would it be better if I tryed to discuss the presidential campaign, world relations, how to save the environment, etc.

I'm not being sarcastic. But, I AM intimidated by Ivy League types because I think I might bore them...Sad, I know.

Another one who went to school in Hanover NH and Ithaca NY here, and my advice would be not to stress about it. I don't care where people went to school; I like folks who are either (a) lively and funny or (b) genuinely nice. If you can be both, that is ideal, but I'm ok with bitchybut funny or kind of dull but kind and considerate. If people are sitting around judging you by where you went to school, they aren't people whose opinions should matter anyway. I loved Dartmouth with a passion and met some amazing people there, but there were plenty of assholes too.

what is worse is the grads from ivy leagues that majored in something completely stupid like history, communications and work in a non related field. Just cause you went to harvard doesn't make you an expert at all things outside of your major.

I have two Ivy League degrees, and I talk about the same stuff at parties that you listed. Why would any normal adult have trouble talking with you about vacations and children and weekend activities?
This is why I also mention the cities where I got my degrees rather than the schools. It is really tiresome to have people be weird about where I went to school twenty odd years ago, and to judge me based not on my actions, but on their insecurities.

Pp here. Also, if you know people know they have insecurities about this stuff, they shouldn't ask where others went to school. The people who get weird when I name my schools are invariably the ones who asked in the first place. I have been working for 25 years, why do you need to know where I went to school?
