S/O Tell me about Lyon Village

I wonder how quickly the homes sell here? Overnight or over a week?

There are often multiple offers as soon as something goes on the market, and some houses never even get to market. They're sold privately.

On the other hand, some owners either overvalue their houses or the neighborhood (or both) and start with too high a list price. Lyon Village is great (I live here and love it), but it's not as though magical unicorns give your children rides to school and Snow White-esque songbirds hang out your laundry. People aren't going to pay whatever you ask just for the joy of living here.

The folks who talked about Lyon Village being overrated piqued my interest in that community--we have never thought of leaving DC, but LV sounded very interesting! Can anyone speak to the community?

OP, this strikes me as very odd. since you heard it was overrated, you want to move there? Why? I mean, I don't hate LV - in fact, I actually love it and don't think it's overrated, but it seems a bit shallow and materialistic and ... I don't know... a bit superficial that you would actually seek out communities that you heard are overrated.

I actually thought it made sense. On DCUM the more people trash something, the more it becomes clear that they are envious of it. This is a general principle, not just about Lyon Village. So I can see why it would make OP think the haters know it's a great place but won't admit it because they don't live there.

I don't live in LV or even know much about it, but from what I've read on here it sounds pretty great, and the haters sound bitter and jealous. If I was in the market and could afford it, I would definitely check out LV based solely on what I've read on DCUM.

If you like some of the old SFH neighborhoods near Bethesda, you might like it. Personally, I find it underwhelming and claustrophobic, but others have different tastes and that's certainly OK.

The corollary of your post is that it's easy to accuse others of envy whenever they express an opinion with which you disagree. If people can't weigh in on their likes and dislikes on this forum, what's the point? There's certainly no shortage of people who live in Arlington who regularly express their preference for Arlington over DC, Alexandria and Fairfax.

It's just that people go far beyond disagreeing when it comes to certain things, e.g. Lyon Village, and more recently Capitol Hill. They go on the attack in a way that makes it clear that they are not merely expressing a preference.

We live in Lyon park. I love it. Walkable, lots of parks, better prices than Lyon village but I like better as a little more room and less crowded. Great parks
