My kids ask to go to school for about 6 weeks during the break. We oblige. They like this activity among their other summer activities. School is not for prep just fun. |

Dear God - the majority of you are lunatics.
|
My sweet dear- then what are you? A bimbo bible thumping teabagger? |
Yeah, I don't understand this, either. Nobody's talking drill and kill Tiger Mom, just stuff to either keep the academic routine going during summer, or to focus specifically on areas where kids are having some difficulty. |
| Didn't you know mother's in this area are teh vainest and envious petticoats around, particularly regarding their off spring and step children. |
Teabagger? nope - liberal high school English teacher with two kids who will be going to the pool, playing with friends, riding bikes, and attending ONE week of camp just for fun again - BUNCH of LUNATICS!!!! |
Something is very wrong with your children. socially inept perhaps? Don't they like physical activity? You do know childhood obesity is an epidemic, and sitting around all day for 75% of the summer is deadly. How can you encourage this? How dreadful! |
I don't get the eye roll? Are you disgusted with yourself for even posting this ridiculous message? |
|
Pinterest has a bunch of ideas from homeschoolers for innovative activities. I like a more arts-and-crafts approach to learning. |
You sound jealous. School and books don't bite! I'm sure you are one of those medicre teachers the kids complain about in our neighborhood. Feeling threatened? |
A PVS top soccer player and PVS zone swimmer is clearly not athletic enough for your kind. Obesity is clearly neither in the cards here nor intellectual mediocrity. Are you a physician or trained health professional? Do you know anything about the incidence, prevalence, risk factors and predictors of obesity? A word to the wise (a wasted effort here) you should not spout off on what you know absolutely nothing about? If you actually think children attending summer school don't like physical activity you are an imbecile. |
| What's the point of sending your kids back to school refreshed and relaxed from a summer of lazing by the pool and doing no work whatsoever if they are going to then immediately stress out because they are struggling in school? Moderation in all things--my kids will mostly play and veg over the summer, but will do a little age-appopriate "maintenance" over the summer so that they will have an easier time of it in the fall. I am doing this not to put extra pressure or burdens on my kids, but to help them lighten the load during the school year by spending the summer making sure they are rock solid on the foundational skills they will need to do well in school. |
This is a good idea, but 4 hrs a day seems overkill. Maybe 1.5 hrs? |
Not all kids are stressed about school or struggle if they don't spend the summer doing academic maintenance. September is the month to get back into the swing of things. |
