Ridiculous! At some schools, the GBRS process is a joke. Also, some gifted kids do not stand out in the classroom because the teachers do not know how to reach them. Before you say I'm sour grapes, I'll say my child had a decent GBRS (12). |
That's a very kind comment but not necessarily true. All kids are special and unique for a number of reasons, but not all are "gifted in one way or another." |
| Well my DD is proof that wisc can change a year later, as the verbal skills have improved over the last year and this was the only factor bringing the score down, improved from 129 to 150 FSIQ. |
Early scores can often be misleading; it's not until 8-9 that a lot of people think the scores are indicative of the childs real abilities. Clearly the earlier tests you took weren't. |
| My kid had a WISC full scale 107 at age 6 and a WISC full scale of 136 at age 7, just 14 months later (after treatment for ADHD). |
| So this just shows that WISC can change over time. |
Yes, but the poster mentioned improved verbal skills twice. Is English a second language for this child? If that is the case the score change makes perfect sense. |
| No English is not a second language for the child but for the parents so as a result the child had not been exposed to the fluency/comprehension/vocabulary of the English language in this country, as we are now only 18 months in this country. But since then my child has made good progress with his language skills, hence the better wisc scores |
very hard to believe that 1 subsection of the testcould change the fsiq that much. That is a very big difference. |
verbal skills <> 1 subsection. |
|
I would take 140 WISC & 6 GBRS over 118 WISC & 15 GBRS.
|
| Interesting...GMU tester told us these scores tend to be the same over time. |
| Well, did the gmu tester also say that iq test are best done at age 7. The age is particularly relevant for the processing speed piece and WMO subsections. I think the pci is the least likely to change much. |
so who are you and do you purport to reflect FCPS AAP admissions' views on this? |
agreed. 118 wisc doesn't need the program. 140 wisc does, no matter what gbrs the teacher gives. |
