If you thought St. Albans was the perfect fit for your rising 9th grader, what were your back-ups?

Not very helpful but kudos on a successful VBA.

Get over yourself. There was no attempt at bragging. For us, STA was the perfect place for our son. We didn't want our son to anywhere else. If things hadn't worked out, we were fine if he remained at his current school. It is hard school to get into, and we were fully aware that many excellent kids are denied admission.

If you took exception to the post, you have some insecurity issues with your son and/or yourself.

Then you actually did have a back up, which was to stay at his current school.

Um, a back-up is having another school to apply to you have more confidence in terms of gaining admission. I'm sure every kid who applies to a private school in this area currently attends a school. By your definition, every kid has a backup.

Um, no. My kids went to a k-8 and applied out for 9th. Staying at their current school for a second year of 8th grade was not an option. Same goes for Beauvoir kids at 3rd grade. Same goes for st Pats, WES, NPS, CHDS, Lowell, any of the catholic k-8s, etc.

Wrong. There is something called a public school. That is an option for everyone.

One wonders what the motivation of the public school people on this board is.

Why are there frequent posts on here suggesting public schools as an alternative or questioning the value of private schools? Why would these people take their time to venture onto this board with their two cents?

The post above mentioning public schools said nothing about questioning the value of a private school education. Lighten up, Francis.

Actually I posted earlier that public school was our back up for St Alban's (although I am not the poster quoted above). And it was true. My kids are in both public and private schools and the public school kid went to private school through middle school. So some of us lowly public school people have been in your midst, and sometimes are still even in your midst. Better watch your back, you never know when you might rub elbows with one of us.

If you didn't have a backup and didn't have a suggestion for a back-up, how was your post in any way responsive to OP's query? Brag away, but own your veiled bragging, STAmom! Revel in your one-upsmomship! Stay classy

Then what was the poster's point? Surely it couldn't have been to make the PP aware that such a thing as public schools exist.

Maybe I am imagining this, but I think I have read many times on this forum defenses of public schools and challenges to the value of private schools.

When I read one of these posts. I always wonder why they are taking the trouble to come here and share their opinions.

Since the neighborhood we live in is 50% private -50% public in the Whitman cluster, I recognize the tension that exists. Whereas the private school people don't seem to care in the least where other's send their kids to school, the public school parents seem irritated that such a thing as private schools exiist. No one will ever come out and say it, but the topic always seems to be just below the surface.
