Why on earth do YOU get a gift for someone else's birthday? YOU bring a gift to them and then on YOUR birthday they bring a gift to YOU. That's how it works.

This seems to be what the kids are looking for now days

We got our hands on a copy of DMX's rider -- the special requests promoters have to fill for performers -- and it reads like the most awesome 'hood pass. Check out the must-haves for his hotel suite:
- One fifth of Hennessy
- One 6-pack of Sunkist Soda
- One carton of Newport cigarettes
- Two boxes of Magnum Condoms
- Now & Laters (assorted flavors)

I wouldnt do any party favors for a 12 year old birthday party, no matter how young the attendees were.

^^ I read the OP wrong. Don't get anything for the 12 year old. How young are the kids coming? Because in general party favors are crap.

Oh please, what 12 year old doesn't like candy? I agree no toys but really.

Why are you buying party favors for a family party. Unclench. Food and drinks and family gossip are good enough for the adults and the kids can all play whatever the heck they want.

Movie size boxes of candy. Everyone likes candy!

Earbuds. So he can escape the boredom and torture of a family party full of little kids.

Lol! My son is 12. When he gets favors, it's always food...candy, chips. A yo-yo or Rubik's Cube/Pyramid/4x4 is also an option.

"Cool" t-shirt?
Hackysack?
Frisbee?
$5 gift card for something?
Lottery ticket?

I have a 12 yo boy. Please don’t get any of these. Stick with candy or a bag of chips. No one needs a party favor but most 12 yo boys love food. Mine would be thrilled with these. As for the poster suggesting iTunes, chances are the kid already has a subscription service somewhere. They don’t use iTunes anymore.

Are you getting separate, hand-selected favors for each kid? That's not a favor, it's a gift. Just give them all candy and keep it moving.

If you want to have one just in case, just do food. But as others have said, 12 is right about the age where tweens do not want to be seen as kids. So getting a goody bag along with the little kids may be embarrassing. It’s a difficult age to know what to do. But most kids would appreciate food or candy.

No more party favors at this age!
