I just saw this link, and the Yahoo article about which tests in particular they recommend cutting. (45 overused medical procedures)

Why wouldn't a waiver work for this though?

'I, Dr. X recommend a pap smear for Ms. Y, but she defers one today." Signed and dated. Would that not hold up in court?

I thought this was interesting:

Avoid nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) in individuals with hypertension or heart failure or CKD of all causes, including diabetes.

(From the American Society of Nephrology) It seems that NSAIDs are somewhat widely used, so something to consider for patients who have HTN or Diabetes.

Agree drs may order unecessary test but let's not forget about for profit health care... drug companies, insurance companies and doctors are making a lot of money. This article ignores how costs are sprialing out of control.
