| I can only say that when families from Beauvoir consider "exmissions." the vast majority go on to St. Albans and NCS. The handful who do not, end up at places like Maret. The families I have seen that go from Beauvoir to Maret seem to be dems with a capital D. They also seem like very nice people (i.e., I wish they would have stuck with the Cathedral schools). In the 6 years I have been in a position to track such things, I have never known any republicans with a capital R or otherwise to choose Maret over St. Albans and NCS. Not sure whether that is at all telling. Just my personal observations. |
Matalin and Carville started Commonwealth Academy in Alexandria. We are there now; it's fantastic. |
Maybe that was a point about making a marriage of political opposite work? |
| I actually have a child at Maret. Soon to be 2 or possibly three. My wife and I are very politically active and well known Republicans, very conservative ideologically. A couple of thoughts. First, the is generally very liberal and proudly "progressive." The kids generally dont care and take each other for who they are. Sometimes you can here the sentiments of the parents from the unknowing mouths of the kids, though. Second, because of the high concentration of liberals and progressives, conservatives can sometimes feel isolated but its mostly bc they are not comfortable and dont want to make waves. Conservatives are distinctly in the minority in the metro area and are so in schools like Maret. STA and NCS definitely more conservative but that may have to with the religious background of the school and long term history, not any institutional bias. |
| I have had children at Maret and we are Republicans. Maret is definitely left leaning, but a very inclusive environment. Everyone in my family loved it there and their voices were welcomed and heard, albeit their opinions were in the minority. |
