c sections; how many is too many for one woman?

Me too. I had 3 sections and 2 different abdominal surgeries through the same scar between Sections 1 & 2. Obviously, they didn't have to cut the uterus for those, but scar tissue still developed. I had easy recoveries (save for the AWFUL constipation caused by percocet). HOWEVER, my physique is DONE. I'm slim but will never, ever wear a 2-piece swimsuit or feel particularly confident in a tight blouse again. I know there are more pressing concerns in the world and I have 3 wonderful kids but that "c-section bulge" is no joke. Also, the numbing yet sharp nerve pangs I get every once in awhile kind of stink. But, they are getting better as time goes by. I hope to never have to get in through that scar for anything ever again!

My co-worker's wife has had 5 c-sections; all went well with no hitches. She's a champ- she homeschools them and I can't imagine recovering from surgery while homeschooling the others.

My cousin had six in eleven years - no problems with any of them.

The info about how OBs in Europe do things was interesting.

I love how some have the "women's bodies were meant to have babies" attitude. Mine grew a baby just fine (well, save feeling like crap the entire time and the pregnancy induced autoimmune problem) but no baby is ever exiting my body the natural way. Before c-sections, my husband would have lost both me AND our child. Before c-sections, lots more women DID die in childbirth for similar reasons.

Have as many kids as you want, but the more c-sections you have to have, the greater the risk. Obviously, the number is different for different women.

My friend who is expecting her 11th is gearing up for her 4th csection, but before that, she never felt a labor pain--always got her epidural before it started to hurt.

Now me, on the other hand...can't wait for another water birth in my bedroom with my midwife/+husband/+doula!

Her--birth is blah. Me--birth is bliss. Both--homeschooling is the only way to go!
