Lake Barcroft Neighborhood/Schools

Maybe that's what was en vogue in public housing at the time, asshat.

Relax, folks.

There's places still available in Ashburn that is at least 4000 square feet and zoned to a school with less than 10% FARMS/ESOL kids. I'll even help make sure you don't get re-zoned to Tuscarora, Loudoun County, or Heritage by mistake.

Of course, if you're scared of getting eaten by a dragon or a monster that's found in Frederick/Loudoun/PWC (well they're on the maps, aren't they?), I don't know if I can really help you. Maybe there's a poster with a good heart like mine that can help you find a place in the Fair (noun goes here) part of Fairfax.

if you live in that area you end your kids to private schools case closed.

+1, the people in lake barcroft are obviously sending their kids to private schools. The area used to have good schools but now its a dump

Not really. Some send their kids to private schools, many send their kids to schools in the Stuart pyramid, and some go to TJ.

Couple that with the absolutely craptastic traffic in that area - anywhere on 7 or 50 or worse navigating that intersection of those two - is horrible.

Since you know the neighborhood so well, you surely also know that Lake Barcroft area residents take the backroads and alternate routes so they avoid 7 Corners altogether. It is quite easy once you know the neighborhood and the best ways around.

Yeah, you take the backroads - that also get congested at times - but taking the backroads adds as much time to the commute as the traffic. It's a no win situation. The lake is a neat feature other than that, the area once you leave the neighborhood sucks.

Well they do have a drive thru Starbucks at least...

With or without the backroads, Lake Barcroft is still closer to DC than Fairfax, not to mention some place in Great Falls or Loudoun, the houses are still nicer than most of the homes in Arlington, and there are a ton of great ethnic places like Duangrat's and Rabieng.

Please stay away! We get that the neighborhood's charms are lost on you, and the feeling is mutual.

Take your medication regularly, and you might fare better.

That house looks like it should be found in foreclosure in a Fort Lauderdale exurb.

Sniff, sniff. I don't like the decorating and agree price has to come down. OTOH, the exterior is fine and it has over an acre of land.

Not really.

The area is in no way an "easy commute" to DC. It's in a very high traffic area - no matter which way you go and your backroads are limited when you are trying to get into DC.

It is a unique area for sure and I bet it does hold charm for many people but it's ridicuolous to pretend that it is close in or that it is not surrounded by crappy areas and high traffic.

By local standards, 7.5 miles to DC is not far away. LB is not "surrounded" by bad areas, either. The only thing that is "ridicuoulous" is your pretending to know more than you do about the area.

If you want to live in DC or Clarendon, go ahead.

Compared to Arlington, these areas are more diverse and less affluent than most of the schools that are assigned to Washington-Lee, but less diverse and wealthier than most of the schools that are assigned to Wakefield. Lake Barcroft isn't the only nice area that feeds into those schools. Sleepy Hollow Woods and Barcroft Woods are also very nice, as are other neighborhoods off Sleepy Hollow Road. There's always a sizable group of students involved in the IB program and parents involved in the PTA. The lake itself is loads of fun.

Personally, I'd be as happy with Glasgow as with Kenmore, and probably happier with Stuart than with TC Williams, Wakefield or Falls Church. The only reason I might avoid it would be if I was a middle or upper-class Hispanic and I was worried that my kid might get targeted or solicited for a gang by lower-income Hispanics who live in Culmore or the rougher areas off Columbia Pike.

why are u bad-mouthing falls church HS???
