i just don't see how longevity makes sense in this instance. are you becoming THAT much more efficient or productive because you have swept floors for 25 years? seriously, why do you pay that much more because of time-in-service? a new janitor should make the same amount. |
Because, despite all Republican efforts to suggest otherwise, people are not disposable items that you throw away every couple of years. What I'd like to know is why people like you latch on to an unrepresentative case and try to use it to prove a point. Just how many custodians do you think have lasted this many years on the job? Just how many have lasted that long in any position for that matter? This custodian is an outlier. As an example of the DC government's pay scale, he has almost no relevance. On the other hand, take a look at the salaries of the people hired by Michelle Rhee to run DCPS. There you would find outrageous salaries to be the norm rather than the exception. |
hmnm Apparently your shit don't stink, eh, PP? ![]() |
I decided to check this "Christopher Best" out in the Washington Times database. Lo and behold, it does not have him making $100K at all. Since this is the data upon which the article is based, who knows if it is true or not.
On top of that, we don't know whether the guy made his numbers on overtime or for a straight salary. It's pretty shoddy in my opinion to provide a database that does not return the number you cite in your own article. |
Oh, here is the database: http://p.washingtontimes.com/dcsalaries/

Just an FYI for those that don't really get why these guys are earning six-figures.
It's NOT just the salary. I get that some guys may have 30 years of experience, but that's not it either. It's the OVERTIME. Since 2007, DCPS and OPEFM were working tirelessly to try to eliminate as many maintenance issues with the schools - not just to improve the facilities, but to also stop excessive OT! Before Wilson HS was renovated, a previous janitor/engineer there had set up an ENTIRE APARTMENT (with bed, kitchenette, etc) behind his office to live in while watching the boilers during the winter. Talk about getting paid for doing NOTHING. |
