How does Paul fair?

Do you define "top" just based on AYP scores? Would be good to know what people think make these top apart from scores one way or another.

PP, someone posted positive impressions after a Paul tour recently. That's all I know.

Our kid is at one that made AYP and I agree, it is about far more than test scores. They are one piece of a big picture, and I don't expect our scores to be 'the best'--our school doesn't focus exclusively on the tests--and I'm glad for it.

I'm confused. What does this "Basis" school have to do with anything? It isn't even a real school, right? It kind of looks like a drill-and-kill version of Latin, but without a nice location.

Oh yes, Latin also attracts Ward 3 families. Where is this Basis thing going?

Because of its shortcomings, the practice of teaching to the test is unethical. A 1989 study on teaching to the test evaluated the ethical "continuum" of the practice, and identified seven practice points, ranging from most to least ethical:[4]

General instruction on local objectives
Instruction on general test-taking skills
Instruction on objectives generally measured by standardized tests
Instruction on objectives specific to the test used
Instruction on objectives specific to the test used and using the same format
Instruction using a released test or a "clone" test that replicates the format and content of the test used
Instruction using the test to be used, either before or during test administration

The study concluded that the ethical boundary fell between points three and five, with points one and two being ethical and points six and seven being unethical.[4]
