Bannockburn vs Carderock Springs

The 10:10 pp is weirdly referring to a murder from, I believe, the 1970's that occurred in the Carderock neighborhood. Obviously, there is nothing to "beware" of in the year 2013.

The school is small and warm and the teachers know all the kids by name. We have two community pools and can walk to the towpath. People are friendly, & it is shocking to me that people find the parents to be unwelcoming. (Of course. I do have perfect children...just kidding!).

Carderock certainly has a much nicer building than we do, but I truly do not think the posters know anything about Bannockburn. We have been very happy, & my kids have really great friends with great parents.

I know I'm responding to an old post and comment but I'm also stunned. We live in th neighborhood and know lots of families who chose the area because of the school. I'd hardly say families are less affluent either. That's just judgemental and rude and is actually irrelevant to the school.

Another supporter of Bannockburn. We're new this year to BES and have found the school and the neighborhood to be incredibly warm and welcoming.

There is a horrendous principal and counselor at Bannockburn. The principal lies like a rug.

NP. Can someone currently at Bannockburn explain what the PP is referring to, about a counselor, and the principal?? We have been looking to move into the neighborhood and am disheartened to read the negative comments.

I have to agree with the person who made the comment about the principal. Our DC goes to 1st grade and needs some school accomodations due to ADHD and the school has failed to implement (even with an IEP in place). The principal and staff promise changes, but fail to carry on or follow up on requests. We are getting tired of this trend and I am currently researching private options

Bumping up for some more recent feedback please on the Bannockburn neighborhood and Bannockburn ES!

We are currently looking at a house that is closer to Carderock but zoned for Bannockburn. Any insight into being allowed to attend Carderock out of boundary?

Doubt it. Why would Carderock take someone from out of boundary?

Don't go to Bannockburn. They are not letting kids strive for higher goals. It's very disappointing. I guess it's because of the new curriculum.

Can't do it. Your kids will go to Bannockburn.

While the County has made it MUCH more difficult this year to attend a school other than the one your zoned for, you do have the argument that Carderock is closer. From a legal standpoint on an IEP, the question is asked if the school the child will attend in the closest school to their house. If it's not, you need to justify this in writing. That would be a fair argument on a COSA....that I want my child going to the closest school to my home. Still may not work...but worth a try.

This isn't what you asked, but there are houses in Carderock for sale right now. I don't know of anyone who attends Carderock out of boundary.

Some refer to the school as Carderock Academy because its small size, beautiful facility, affluent community and excellent academic program make it appear more like a private school than a public.

As for the PTA, I assume the earlier poster was joking.

Is this a joke?

the types to attempt to "privatize" a public

too poor to pay for tuition?????

Not too poor to construct a decent sentence, though.
