Oh, please. You're just a smug, self-righteous bitch. As if you would run around telling all of your friends in Bethesday that you're husband is a janitor.

Actually I'm the one married to a construction worker, and daughter to a janitor and living in Bethesda. All of my friends have met my family. Anyone who finds what my DH and Pop do embarrassing can kick rocks as far as I'm concerned.

You should be happy he had a job at all. It's hard to be and stay employed.

I think if OP was ashamed of her husband due to his job it's no wonder the relationship fell apart. Hopefully her ex husband was able to move on and find someone who isn't as shallow.

My secret? I wish I never went to college. Looking back it seems like it took so long and so much money and I really wish I could have those years back. I know so many people who did not go to college and ended up married with a house and kids while I was still trying to finish up college while living in an apartment with no health insurance on less then 20K a year and drowning in loans.

PP, if I may ask, how old are you? Are you married?

Mid twenties. And no, not married. I technically still haven't finished grad school as I haven't been able to go back (financial reasons) and despite job searching in and out of my field as well as applying to work as a nanny I'm still unemployed. No kids of my own yet either - just plenty of "nieces and nephews" (not biological) - 3 of which I took care of as infants/toddlers and still see regularly as infants/toddlers/preschoolers. I want kids, badly, but am obviously not in the place to have them right now.

I know, I know - I probably shouldn't be giving relationship advice but I think the above is pretty obvious.
