What are the top Public Schools in N. Arlington?

We love Nottingham. At the risk of giving myself away, we are one of the "diverse" families there and it doesn't bother me at all. My kids fit right in, and have had amazing teachers and are very happy. School is not the only place they mingle with people from other backgrounds and frankly, that is not the priority for me.

Anyway, I attended diverse schools my whole life and all the white kids hung out with the other white kids and other kids in the same socioeconomic bands. So parents should do what suits them, but don't think putting your kid in school that is diverse on paper is necessarily the be all end all.

You say this with a touch of disdain.

Diversity isn't all it's cracked up to be. But the homogeny I seek has nothing to do with race and everything to do with values. I don't want my kid in an environment where college is perceived only as one option.

which street exactly? i've seen none of those on 26th St, 26th Rd, 27th St, 27th Rd, 28th St, Florida or Greenbrier. i've only seen one Asian family on 27th St but i think they moved. never seen any African-Americans, ever.

Yes I also live in 22207 in supposedly one of the more "diverse" school districts (Glebe) and everyone on our street is white. Going to the park nearby and it is mostly white, too, with exception of some people who live in the apartments nearby. I not saying it is good or bad either way, but it is what it is and most of N. Arlington is pretty much the same.

majority white yes, but there is definitely a good number of upper-income minority families around (mostly Asian- East Asian and South Asian) that you see in N Arlington...I think the Asian numbers have actually gone up in recent years...

West of Harrison. Yes, the area is mostly white but in the immediate area where we live, there are pockets of diversity

9:21PP here - I don't think Wakefield is a horrifying option - it's fine. But if I spent almost $600K on a house that's priced that high in part because it's zoned for W-L or Yorktown, I didn't want to take the risk that it would lose a chunk of value in a boundary shift. (I didn't see any houses I loved that fit that category anyway, so it's kind of a moot point.)

An African American boy I know who lives a few blocks from Lee Rec Center on Lee Hwy was nicknamed "chocolate" by his Tball teammates....

That's just horrifying. We know a family in one of the "hot" N Arlington schools who were glad their kids were at a summer camp with actual non-white kids in it because their school is so homogenous...

Just met several mixed-race children at pre-kindergarten playgroups for Nottingham ES. At least 4 different families. Middle Eastern, Southeast Asian, etc. Hoping this means the demographic is becoming more diverse!

Is this playgroup open? We live nearby and would love to join a regular, diverse playgroup! TIA.

It was a series of playdates arranged by the PTA for rising kindergartners. Very heartened to see the neighborhood moving in a more inclusive direction.
