| Where do the average kids go to college? |
My guess is anywhere they want to. Average kids take AP classes in HS and get straight A's just like the GT kids. No college that I have heard of yet requests to see an elementary school transcript. I suppose you could argue that schools like MIT are geared toward GT type kids, but being a GT kid doesn't even mean that they will do well in such a school. I don't believe that, with the exception of very specific occupations, attending an Ivy League school really matters as much as it did. I can also tell you that I was NOT a GT kid, I did well in school, took a couple of AP classes, and got into every school I applied to. Penn State, Univ. North Carolina, Va Tech, JMU and the college I actually attended, The University of Tennessee. I got a great job and have a decent career. |
| Oh yeah....one of my best friends was a GT kid. Super smart and all AP and GT classes. He went to MIT, flunked out and now he happily works as a mechanic in Manassas. |
| In my world, average kids are not getting straight A's. They may get a few A's and B's with a C here and there. I call that average. My guess is these kids don't get to go to any college they want. I'm thinking UMBC or Towsons or some equivalent in Va or the midwest. |
