I went to the U of C 20+ years ago. It was academically challenging, but not to the point where you couldn't have a social life. It was there that I really learned how to budget my time and how to study well. I came from a small hs where I was a big fish in a small pond so there was a period of adjustment for me. I got my degree in biology with honors and went on to get a Ph.D. in the sciences so I think I turned out ok. I would love my child to go to the U of C, but I realize it's not for everyone and he might not want to go there. Good luck!
