Should I give up diet coke to lose weight?

well, truvia is also erythritol...not sure if it is derived chemically or from stevia itself. if you're going for stevia, i'd go to whole foods and buy something that only has stevia as an ingredient.

I gave up artificial sweeteners (with the very, very occasional diet coke now) about 10 years ago. I did so because I was consuming mountains of the stuff, and i got some very strange blood test results that no one could explain (potassium levels, etc). After seeing a bunch of doctors, I focused on mye ating habits: lots of fake sugar, a lot of simple carbs, veggies. but very little complex carbs, good fat or protein. I was pretty thin, but I exercised 1-2 hours a day and controlled calories. When I dropped the fake stuff and also changed my diet, adding in more fat and protein and cutting down refined carbs and sugar, I
certainly did not gain weight, though I put on some muscle and generally felt healthier (and blood readings were fine) For beverages, I substituted iced tea and water. Another thing that happened was that I became much more sensitive to real sugar so that a little now goes a long way, whereas I thik the artificial sugar messed with my perception of sweetness.

My mom, on the other hand, uses tons of artificial sweetener. She also has a huge sweet tooth and gets severe sugar cravings. I believe they are related and have tried to get her to quit or cut down but she says that she'll just end up having even more real sugar, etc.
