Sudden onset of high fever, chills, vomiting in 6 yr old boy

It could be Hyperidocosis though. This is where you shouldn't take risks with kids. Any Vomiting and High Temp (over 102) needs to be seen by a ped IMMEDIATELY as this is often misdiagnosed!

I cant tell you guys enough, but I KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT (ped assistant for 16 years)

If you suspect:

Dose them up on Sulbutimate Peridoxicole (50mg every 4 hrs) and Ibrufen or Colperazine for the inflame, and see a Doc! get them to the ER if you are worried!

It could have been, but this thread is almost 5 years old.

Three days later, we were still battling the 103.5 temp, she vomited again and suddenly became lethargic. We took her to Cook's Children's hospital where they diagnosed her with gastrointestinal strep. By the time we got to the hospital she was at 105.6 fever and dehydrated (we continued to give her fluids but the last vomit episode she lost everything). I wouldn't chance anything like this or try to treat it at home. Lesson learned: if fever doesn't break the next day, get a second opinion!

Parents! Nobody mentioned it, but i'm curious. When you saw that there was significant fever did you give your child Tylenol to work on bringing the fever down. If you didn't and you don't keep it in your house then make sure you get it. You have a small range before we are in a serious possible life threatning area. 100 degree temp. No biggie, but watch. At 101 you are sick. 102 and higher and its high. A doctor is probably not going to scare you when and if the fever is 105, but trust me we are worried. You have to get that temperature down. The brain starts to cook above 105 degrees and death becomes a possibilty. In little girls rapid onset fever of 103,104 many times is a UTI many times from ecoli bacteria.
