The whole "best public schools" in the nation is such a farce

That's more than many private schools. Now I'm very curious how Fairfax County gets away with spending only $13k per student. Is Fairfax particularly efficient with its spending? Or particularly resistant to taxes? Or is there some disparity between tax base and # of students that explains it?

Also, does anyone know how DC compares?

It may be more than many private schools charge for tuition but tuition costs rarely (if ever) cover the full cost of an education at a private school. They use fundraising to cover the difference which is why they pester parents asking for $ towards the annual fund.

Which private schools charge $15-20k past preschool?

I haven't posted back because I've been busy. I understand that most of you can't afford these privates and that's just a fact of life, but I just wanted to let you know that your kids aren't getting a quality education. I'm glad that my kids will go to college and be able to stand toe to toe with kids from the top prep and privates from around the world. For those of you who can afford private school but scurried off to the burbs "for the schools" you are selfish parents for not spending on your kids education. That is all.

You are an ignorant ass.

Right! Private schools do tend to be much more than $15-20k. (Tuition costs below are for elementary grades, from the school websites.)

Sidwell Friends (Lower School): $31,960
Beauvoir: $28,550
Washington Episcopal School: $27,725
British School of Washington (Years 1-6): $22,170

Sorry, OP is a troll--I don't believe this is a legit post.

I'm with you. That, or she's a Sarah Palin follower who doesn't know enough to hide her embarrassing combination of entitlement and ignorance. Either way, she's not worth anybody's time.

LOL! I'm guessing your kids attend a mediocre DC private school. Even if they attend a good one, they will still be fighting for the Ivy slots against all the legacy kids, athletic recruits and national merit scholars in your private school.

Whereas my kid at the very top of a good MoCo school will get into a better college than your kid.

Looks like I'll have the last laugh! (Although I agree you're probably a troll, probably a private school kid.)

OP is a public school graduate. No private school lifer has this much love of private school. (I went to privates and have a healthy disdain for them.) She's also one of those "I paid a lot for this so it must be good!" people. Ugh, that's so annoying. Seriously, there are lots of students who transfer from public school to private and do just fine, so their public schools must have done something right. Care to guess who are the kids that get counseled out?

I went to private schools too, and I share your disdain. I sent my kids to private schools for elementary, but I'm now very pleased with how they are doing in public schools. And yes, they will probably go to better colleges then OP's kids.

Anybody else think this is the "no redeeming value in public schools" poster from the private school forum?

The "why did you choose private if you have good public schools" thread is indeed horrifying. I hope I don't know those ... disgusting ... posters.

Did you learn how to be a mega bitch in your private school or is it genetic? I guess they don't teach social decency, humility, tactfulness and other people skills.

Private schools are for yuppy larvae. We don't belong there.

I'm surprised it took you all this long to play the troll card. The last retort in a DCUM showdown. Now I'm going to hide under a bridge somewhere. My initial post was to educate and serve as a reminder for District parents who pay a high price that we will be rewarded when our children are future CEOs and leaders of the world. Of course suburbanite parents not too happy with an inconvenient truth will lash out at my remarks and shoot the messenger. Sorry about your life choices honey.

PS. Calling a person's child larvae just oozes class and grace.
