| Most of the female lawyers I know who left the firm we were at together married other lawyers. Some of those men were at law firms, others were not but have very strong reputations and could return to firms if they needed to for financial reasons. So, it may have been easier for the women to decide not to stay at the firm (I went in house first and am now a SAHM). There's also all of the medical school debt to think about. Doctors get out of school later, after much longer training, and often with significantly more debt than lawyers. And they don't have law firm job salaries to help them pay off the loans quickly. |

Your are kidding right? Only 30% of lawyers go into big law which means you have a 60% of the profession making pretty low pay for th debt starting around $60K on the other hand even the lowest paid doctors start around 80K. Not going to cry for either profession but doctors are not underpaid. |

"Many doctors wanted to be doctors from the time they were very young. They see themselves as healers. (My perspective as a doctor's daughter and sister of an MD). Many lawyers back into the profession because they've got good grades, do well on standardized tests and majored in history, English or government. There's less of a burning passion for the law on the part of lawyers"
