Moms of young kids, how do you dress nicely?

Most times the natural moms (little makeup, casual dress) look more beautiful to me than the really put together moms. It might be because they are less focused on themselves. They look happier!

I'm not sure that's an accurate generalization - if a person puts on makeup in the morning, they are self-absorbed? And less happy?

I put on makeup and dress carefully because it makes me look better and feel happier. or am I just fooling myself?

Most moms I see are "natural"-looking and casually dressed, but some look better than others. There's a big difference between the "natural" mom who has cute jeans, a flattering t-shirt, and light makeup and the "natural" mom who is in wrinkled sweats and hair pulled back into messy ponytail, eyebrows everywhere. Put together is not the same as dressed up.

One latebreaking revelation for me is that it is better to buy cheap trendy tops at Target and wear them for a single summer than to try to get multiple summers out of more expensive tops from Banana or Ann Taylor. Unless you barely wear them, summer tops don't hold up and the trends change enough that they never good look the next year.
