I'm a hick from the sticks and...

I've lived all over this country and overseas. We've spent plenty (too much) time in the D.C. area.

Given a choice, I'll take "the sticks" every time. My home town has no crime to speak of. No traffic. People don't live to make money. Your job is just that...a job. And people are valued by the strength of their character as opposed to their income and occupation.

A great post--thank you!

Given that the states with the most crime are Southern states, there must be some crime, somewhere.

Also, let's face it. You're from the upper class of your hometown, big fish in a small pond. Here, you're just average. There, you know lots of people. Here, you don't.

Just outta curiosity, why stay here? Why not go back? Or is it, as a PP has mentioned, that it's hard to get a good job in the sticks?

I won't lie, I'm moving from Vienna to Leesburg because my wife and I like being more towards the middle of the pile than being nearer to the bottom (at least among the yuppies). That, and it's a few blocks from downtown Leesburg and neither of us work inside the Fairfax County Parkway.

Never seen one. Not saying they're not here, but I've never seen a single one.

I'm a snob as evidenced by...? I went to public schools, and my kids are doing the same. You show your insecurity some more by continuing to project it onto others.

Well, given the "Rockthesda" comments that show up here from time to time, I can only begin to think what folks think about Frederick/Leesburg and points west.

But do you have intellectual curiosity and a genuine love of learning? Do you respect academia, or only making a buck?

"I'm not a hick from the sticks and I laugh at the snobbery in this area. The more snobby, the more I know they have nothing to be snobby about. One thing this board can not stand is old money. I know old money very well, and there is very little if any around here. Which is too bad, because they would be a lot more humble! "

How do you know?

You sound like one of those people who've watched a few movies and think you can generalize what all Southerners are like. If you tried that same generalization shit with black folks you'd be called out for your prejudice.

Just stupid.

Please. I've lived in the South and known plenty of Southerners. That's not necessary, of course - all you have to do is look at Civil War reenactments, rebel flag controversies - how about just the names of towns, streets, etc.? You think there's as much stuff in the North named after Grant and Sherman?

I'll leave y'all alone now, so you can go back to defending against your imaginary persecutors.

And everyone knows everyone else's business. No thanks.
