I have not yet asked the school about a listserv, nor have I met any other parents. What I like about MMB is that they offer spanish immersion, latin and international travel in the 8th grade. I also love that fact that it is in my neighborhood. The front office staff seem very friendly and were willing to give me a tour of the school when it was convenient for me. I am looking forward to being highly engaged in the school. Can't wait to see what develops... |
| Those things sound great, PP. Are you on Brookland Kids? Perhaps that would be a great place to connect with other parents and/or draw in more neighborhood parents. |
| Does anyone know if they are still taking PS students for the fall? Our other options are not looking so great... |
I believe they are. I would apply online and then call the school. |
| Is the spanish teacher a native speaker? And are kids thats already advanced at spanish at a disadvantage? |
Have you looked at DC Prep? It's a great school, and the lottery hasn't happened yet. |
|
My DD will most likely attend MMBethune in the Fall.
I went to the most recent open house and was really impressed with the number of male teachers there! It might be a 50/50 split! The music teacher seems awesome and the principal (both male) knows every student by name. |
| PP what did they say about how they conduct the Spanish half day? |
| Another DCUMer sending preschooler to Bethune in the fall here. |
| A lot of interest in this school on th Brookland Kids list too of late. |
| 9:33, maybe our kids will be classmates. My preschooler is headed their too this Fall. |
|
We are also sending our DS to MMB for PS3 in the fall. Loved the teachers and curriculum. Principal is super responsive. They have no more than 10 kids in each class, and, yes, the Spanish teachers are native speakers. Facilities need work, but there are plans in place to make upgrades to the building and playground.
There was no lottery this year because they didn't have that many applicants, but I believe that they are running a waiting list now. We have met several enthusiastic parents of incoming students and I think we might be reaching the tipping point for making this the next "it" charter school. |
|
We're in too and kind of excited about the opportunity to support efforts to make the school better and better. We'll be in the PreK 3 class.
9:40, I think you're right about being at the tipping point. |
| When are enrollment forms due? |
| June 30 is what I was told, but that seems wrong since almost every other school has already required that the forms be turned in. |
