What's the deal with Facebook status updates?

OP...so do you believe that meaningless questions about strollers, private school gossip, and babywraps are more important than hearing from family and friends who you may actually know?

I admit, I'm not the biggest fan of "I love my kitten" posts on FB, but it's better than the idiotic dribble you get here on DCUM from complete strangers.

So what do you post on FB, OP?

Why don't you just block her updates? You can do that without her knowing and without de-friending her. If you want an update you have to go to her page, otherwise it doesn't show up in your news feed. I've done with that people who post too much.

I keep her because I feel sorry for her, I comment or like things every now and then like to throw her a bone. I used to like her a lot but now I just can't believe this is her life. Anyways, I should hide her and then every now and then just go like things on her page. Thanks PP!

Do you think anyone wants a friend who thinks about them the way you do? Do her a favor and un-friend her.

Wow. Why is it up to you to determine that her life is sad? It sounds like she might really love being a stay-at-home mom and all that it entails. You sound judgmental and I agree with others who have said that you should do her a favor and unfriend her.

My biggest FB pet peeve is the pretentiousness of the people I know via work - my "friends" list is a mix of professional contacts, HS and college friends, and current friends. Some of it is so over-the-top that it's actually really funny, like the academic who "slips" that he was at a really interesting White House briefing or another guy who complains that his 7yo was up too late pondering "the meaning of life, the nature of the judicial system, Buddhist philosophy, and 16th century bell ringing techniques." Ok, not the bell ringing but the rest is verbatim. Even worse, he and his wife conduct lengthy discussions about it on his FB page, which then gets posted to everyone he knows. Why??? I should hide these people, but honestly it's kind of a laugh.

Sounds like the saddest thing about her life is that she's friends with you.

Maybe he has a sense of humor that you don't share.
