Infertility Support and Discussion
Actually, I know a few couples who conceived fraternal twins naturally, so I agree with PP, you should stay away from judgemental connotations. |
| I am not either of the posters- but my understanding is that fraternal twins are more likely through IVF, identical twins are more likely with BD, however, assisted egg hatching with IVF can increase the likelihood of identical twins. |
| I have fraternal IVF twins and ironically the 3 sets of identical twins I know personally were all through IVF as well. |
| I'm a mom of toddler twins. I love my babies more than anything in the world and I do feel especially blessed that they they are twins, BUT a twin conception is NOT something to attempt intentionally. I did have to undergo fertility treatments and was excited to be pregnant with twins. However, in my first dr visit with my high risk specialist (all multiple pregnancies are by default higher risk) the dr said to me "nature abhors mulpitles." He wasn't saying it to be as obnoxious as it sounds. He was preparing me for the reality of the risk of twins. I am so grateful that we are all thriving today but I was on hospital bedrest for a couple months, I nearly died right after delivery, and my twins were in the NICU for 2 weeks. One or both had IUGR and my smaller one was 3 1/2 pounds -- after going to lengths to develop him at a more accelerated pace. I wouldn't change anything knowing what I have now, but I would never intentionally try to start a baby's life as a twin knowing all I do now about how risky and tough it is for the babies (and mom). |
