That is because you are naive. A a bit of a dim watt bulb. Sorry but that is true. To think that a politician who has a personal spending problem would all of a sudden change when he is put in a position with more power and more money is just the kind of thinking that crafty corrupt pols use to get elected. It hasn't even been 6 months and the true Gray-Brown colors are showing. But that Fenty was an asshole right so you people voted him out. Didn't matter that he tried to move away from typical DC racial politics, well now enjoy your good old days. Tax hikes are coming next.

Speaking of dim bulbs. Have you looked in the mirror lately? Yes, it is reasonable to expect that a politician with a personal spending problem would change his ways when in a position of power. Do you know why? Because if he didn't, it would end up in the Washington Post and be the most commented on story in recent memory. It would cause so much controversy that it would likely plague him for the rest of his term. That fact that Brown was too stupid to recognize this is what is really remarkable. Moreover, as I said in my original post, there wasn't really a good alternative. Hello, PEPCO lobbyist Vincent Orange, are you kidding me?

Finally, Fenty himself was fond of spending the tax payers money for his own benefit. Are you aware of the number of city-supplied vehicles Fenty had? I can think of at least three. So far, Kwame has not installed heaters in a city-owned swimming pool so that he could swim in it in the morning. Let's not forget that Fenty left office with a budget deficit. Just in case you haven't noticed, every jurisdiction is having financial problems due to the recession. Sure, there are plenty of things to criticize Gray and Brown about. But, don't act like Fenty was so much better.

I disagree. In my opinion, Fenty and Williams were the best mayors in my 21 years of being a resident of DC. I'm worried that Gray will be a major step backwards.

Mr. Steele, while I disagree with you on all matters political, I think this is the best thread title ever. At a certain point, all you can do is laugh.

Please feel free to flood his inbox. I, like an previous poster, was hesitant to vote for him when news of how he mismanaged his personal finances was revealed, but I also thought that he would go out of his way to prove to voters that he had changed. I was wrong.

Anyone with the personal financial problems that Kwame has should not be allowed to run for office for a period of at least ten years. The guy couldn't even manage his own finances. Why the hell would anyone vote someone like that into office to oversee city spending? It's like giving a kid the keys to a candy store.

Anonymous wrote:Jeff, you and I have argued about politics before. Until we stop this one party rule in this city we'll continue to have no accountability. Jack Evans as council chair would have been a far better choice than Kwame, but the demographics of DC havent evolved enough to allow that.
If you want to get rid of one party rule, then Republicans have to have the gonads to move into the District. No one is going to hold their hand and beg them to come. Until then, those who are feeling sorry for themselves about the lack of Republicans should chill out.

I know tons of R's in the District. They're just too scared to organize. This city is so entrenched in liberal politics that being a local Republican can mean career suicide when it comes to contracts etc.
Voting is confidential.

But organizing and fundraising isn't

Guess that would take gonads! Like I said.

Remember that many arguments have more than two sides, so please don't take this as praise of Brown, but I doubt that the money he blows on vanity cars is a significant fraction of the damage that Orange might have done greasing things for his corporate pals. The fact that the lesser of two evils turns out to be evil (or at least objectionable) does not mean he was not the lesser.

How about Jack Evans? He wanted the council chair, but was told he wouldn't win because of his race and closeness to Fenty.

As the writer of the first quoted paragraph, I would like to thank Jeff for the comtplimen, which was perhaps a nice way of noting that I was basically repeating something he wrote a while earlier.

As to the editorial he pointed us at, I wish I could demur, since I like Kwame as a person, not that I'm an intimate, just a constituent who has been treated with more attention by him than I probably deserve. Unfortunately, I have to agree that he has made himself into a liability for the District.

Why can't Gray and Brown drive a Ford or a Chevy? And please inform me why a city worker needs a DVD entertainment system and moon roof in his or her car? Make a statement and use the Metro or the bus a couple of time per month like the rest of us!

I just got interviewed by Fox 5 News about Kwame and his Navigator (and my blog post calling on him to resign). Should air during the 10 pm news tonight. Though, I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up on the proverbial cutting room floor. I just heard that Brown is giving up the SUV and paying for it out of his own pocket.

out of his own pocket? he cannot afford that. definitely track that one down.

great job Jeff. I disagree with you over politics, but am impressed you are principled enough to call BS on either side of the aisle.

Just read his apology statement. Basically it is DPW's fault and he'll pay for "[his] share of the use" of the vehicle after the lease is renegotiated.

I second that.
