My parents had my IQ tested really early on, at a teacher's suggestion, administered by a psychologist. I was put into Gifted/Talented programs in early elementary school. Mine was 136; I've tested it informally as an adult and scored around the same or more. (MENSA test, online IQ tests, etc.) I knew in the abstract that I was smarter than most people, but never really thought about it. I thought G&T was kind of a burden; I didn't like being singled out that much, and kind of flew under the radar in my classes. (while getting mostly straight A's.) My brother and sister tested in the 120's, but I don't think they know their results even now. Over the holidays, my sister-in-law actually said that they don't know where their son gets his intelligence and I said, "really? because [brother] has an IQ over 120, which is pretty bright." She was shocked. My brother's got a very self-deprecating sense of humor, though.
My daughter's dad has an IQ of 147, which I believe - he's wicked smart. We'll have our daughter tested for G&T, but won't force her into it in the later years if she's not into it. |
| My IQ is 138 but the dyslexia, dyspraxia and ADD balance it all out. |

If you haven't taken an IQ test but have taken the GRE/SAT, there is a conversion estimate based on high levels of correlation between scores. The GRE is a better estimator of IQ than the SAT, and the older the SAT the better it is as an estimator of IQ (the elimination of analogies and relational elements of the verbal section made it less of an IQ test).

| I tested high IQ-wise in the mid 80's and was placed in a GT program. Could never do well in school. Was accused of deliberately not doing well, by both parents and teachers because "we all know how smart you are." Frustrated and depressed throughout my school career. Diagnosed with severe ADD as an adult. I wish they knew then what they know now about how ADD manifests in girls, because I was a classic case. |
| I was in GT when I was little and I think the school had all of us tested. I don't think it was something that my parents elected, although I suppose they could have opted out. I remember taking the test, but I don't think anyone told me it was an IQ test. My parents wouldn't tell me the results until I was an adult. I also think it's smart not to tell your kids that kinda stuff. |
Apparently my IQ is not that high, because I thought you meant that you scored in the mid 80's on your IQ test and were in the GT program. And I was thinking, no wonder you didn't do well! That sucks about the late ADD diagnosis. |
I agree. I'm undiagnosed ADHD (!) with two ADHD kids (one girl and one boy). |
| I have a mirror that not only tells me I am the most beautiful in the land but that I have the highest IQ in the land. |

Oh yes- high IQ and high ADHD not diagnosed until age 37.
I was able to graduate high school at age 16 while attending college at the same time, but it took me another 10 years to finish my undergrad. Once diagnosed and treating it, I was able to do my masters in 12 months. Smart + flightly as a bat is a fun ride, but I'm glad I don't have to be married to me

| I was tested in grade school at rec of teacher and again in high school as part of a talented youth program I was in. I knew things came easily to me and that I felt different than my peers. Not always a good thing. I tried hard to fit in, partied and did my work at the last minute. Thankfully, I pulled it together in college , grad school, and work and never got into too much trouble. I asked my mom last year what my scores were as we were dealing with my childrEn's scores, private school admission, etc. And she said 140 and 148. |
