I'm wearing snow boots and thinking snowy thoughts. I hope we get a real snow that lasts longer than noon this time!

Snow is fun in areas where road crews know how to clear it quickly and effectively. It's not fun here. Here it's awful and inconvenient. Here schools let out hours early but the roads are so bad the school bus rolls around near it's regular time. Here snow plows don't put their blades on the road and create larger icing issues. Here people will drive either 70mph or 5mph and go off the road. Too fast and you loose traction. Too slow and you loose momentum and traction. Here people still hit the breaks like they would on dry roads and just slide through the stop signs.

Snow is fun other places.

Can you elaborate on this? Why wouldn't they put the blades on the road? (Displaced southerner here!)

I don't know about the truth of the original statement, but if it is true, my guess is they don't put them on the road because they don't want to completely tear the roads up (which happens anyway, but would probably be a million times worse if the blades were against the roads).

No... If they put the blades on the road, all of the snow is gone, leaving behind only a wet road, which will freeze and create a lot of black ice.

That's why they are supposed to salt and plow at the same time. If you hover the blade you compact the snow and create thick sheets of ice.
