Yes, they have several African-American families

Sure, there are many (and not for mere tokenism, unlike what has been observed for other schools on this thread). As a current WIS parent, I feel the school is really committed to representing as many cultures and races as possible, in the spirit of authentic diversity.

how would you compare it to British School of Washington? Also, interested in the diversity issue regarding African American families.

When you put aside the actual families from Africa, or those who are actually from Central/Latin America, there really are not a whole lot of AA families, at least in the lower school which is my frame of reference.

Are you referring to WIS or BSW?

WIS.

As a current WIS parent myself, I feel that, independently of the actual number of AA families (which, in my view is not that low), what you get at WIS is real respect of diversity, of all sorts. All cultures all welcome and celebrated. One cannot feel excluded or underrepresented precisely thanks to the inclusiveness that is embedded in pedagogical activities and human relationships. I haven't found this atmosphere in any other school in the area.

I absolutely agree with PP. I am also a WIS parent.

Can someone provide some hard numbers of true AA families at WIS?

So why doesn't WIS get mentioned in the same breadth as those "other" NW private schools.

Pretty good? Really? If I had spent the best part of half a million dollars to have my child end up at many of these universities I would be pretty angry.

Pretty good, yes. But if you are not convinced, you'd better have legacy status in some Ivy League university, because otherwise not even a half million dollars spent for the allegedly top 3 NW private schools can guarantee a better placement if you are not connected...
