Is Sidwell "joyless"?

Nothing is more joyless than Sidwell sports, that's for sure.

Oh good! Another Sidwell-sucks-at-football and football-is-the-only-sport-that-counts-even-for-girls and so Sidwell-sucks-at-sports and so Sidwell-sucks thread. Can't have enough of those!

Yup. Another attack to deflect attention away from Sidwell's awful sports program (and not just football).

Hear, hear PP. The misogyny of the focus on football and Sidwell has been eye-opening.

...said the Landon parent...

And the performance of Sidwell teams on the field has been stomach churning.

Sidwell crush land on in a wrestling match last week and Landon, despite it's UVA recruit barely beat Sidwell in basketball by two points the week before. Sidwell won it's own basketball tournament this weekend. The bashing of Sidwell sports is stupid

1. I doubt the serial Sidwell sports basher is a Landon parent, as I believe Landon's parents probably experienced enough cheap shots after the Huguely murder/Dowd article that they are not out there mud-slinging like this.
2. Sidwell's boys and girls' basketball teams won thEir ivitational tournament this weekend and are more than respectable.
3. Sidwell's wrestling team is really good; we are an IAC family and their team did beat Landon and would have a good shot at winning the IAC (although Prep, with it's 500 boys, would probably squeak out a win).
4. As mentioned before, in the fall boys' soccer won their league; Sidwell had the top x-country runner in the area (Ivy bound if he wants, many offers); and girls' soccer had a strong season and is sending their star to Duke.
5. We are not a Sidwell family, as said before, but the bashing is non-factual and very nasty and tiring to listen to for those with a good knowledge of the private school sports scene. There Are other schools that focus more on sports but from all I hear, the education at Sidwell is wonderful, and from what I have seen from watching our kids play Sidwell, they are well-coached; seem to enjoy the game; and produce plenty of good college-bound athletes. Sorry for going on and on but I don't understand the weird obsession, and as someone who cares about girls and boys sports and sports in addition to football, I just got sick of it.

Trying to fit in with rich kids, or kids of the powerful. Not being able to afford the designer clothes that everybody else is wearing. Of course, it depends on your family's own income level.

How does this turn to Landon bashing? Keep the sports obsession on the other thread please.
I'm trying to find out what's wrong with 4th grade.

Do you have a kid at Sidwell? I do, and while I know there are some kids who would describe the social scene this way, most would not. My DS, who absolutely fits in socially, went off to school today in a t-shirt and jeans from JC Penny (ok, his sweatshirt is UnderArmor).

I actually think that one of the strengths of Sidwell is that, while some parents may be hyper-aware of who other parents are, the kids really don't pay attention.

Some people are really trite. If your kid can get into Sidwell...great for you/kid. If not, don't take potshots. My kid was on the waiting list...never got off it. She turned out great anyway. Life goes on ... get a life folks! It's not the end of the world if your kid doesn't get in. So don't take lame potshots such as this "joyless" junk.
