It sounds more like a teacher or other local government pension than a fed pension. (I am an SES with a high 3 that will be around $220K retiring with 30 years at age 62 (so 33% of high 3). My pension will be roughly 6K/month.) OP is describing a more generous option, no one in OP’s position that is a fed would retire at 58 absent a VERA as they would take a pension haircut.

| IN your case I would be doing the roth 401K. I would choke down beans and rice to make the maximum contribution. Your 59yr old self will be happy you did. |
