| I try to never do layovers, ever. I will spend a lot of money to avoid them |
| Depends on the length of the layover but will take lounges into account. |

+1. This confused me too. I guess these people don’t get out much. |
+2 There is no way to get to Limerick Ireland or Gran Canaria without a layover. These people don’t really travel. |

To me, the weird thing is that ORD management seems unable to plan for snow. Every winter they seem surprised that it snows in Chicago.
By contrast, MSP realizes it will snow a lot every winter. So they plan for it, and barely skip a beat even in heavy snow. |

+ 1 to avoiding Frankfurt and Miami for the same reasons.
As far as paying to avoid a connection, am I the only person who’s ever bought a nonstop only to have an involuntary schedule change that required a connecting flight? |
To see family I MUST have a layover, or be okay with a 6 hour drive or several train connections. It's annoying every time. We now often opt for the drive because I prefer it to a connection but it's not ideal. |
| I'm surprised by all the people avoiding Frankfurt. It's huge, but pretty manageable and has plenty of clubs. Sure, Munich is nicer but there are worse airports. |
My issue with Frankfurt is purely the size and connection. Every time I've been I had to deplane into a bus, then go to a terminal, then shuffle to another. It's a huge treck and annoying and tiring. I agree it's otherwise fine. |
One of the Newark international terminals is like this- I've never seen so many random people milling around pre-security. I was there early out of circumstance and couldn't even check my bag in yet because the counter only opened 3hrs before the flight. The options were super slim. SOmeone was checking boarding passes before they let you come into one of the few pre-security restaurants. In Europe I join in the dislike of Frankfurt and CDG. I don't mind LHR but prefer Munich and Amsterdam. |
| Oh yeah, I don't like Miami either! Everything is so far apart. |
Where do you travel to then? Do you really limit yourself to destinations with direct flights from Dulles, or are you driving to NY or Philly to avoid a connection? |
Yeah, kind of limiting you options if you only fly to locations with nonstop service from your home airport. |
I’m here to say Frankfurt. I’ll take any other layover, including CDG. I flew through Frankfurt for the first time in probably 2 decades last summer and it… looked the exact same as I remembered. Gross, dingy, no good food options, no outlets, insanely crowded and nowhere near enough seating for the level of traffic, poor signage, confusing layout, and a massive amount of walking. I live in NYC and am very used to walking, but I’m pretty sure I schlepped 1.5 miles, at minimum, to transfer between my non-Schengen arrival and Schengen departure. It sucked. Never again. |
